Have just had the email HoD. Oh well, looks like the arse slapping will have to wait ![]() I have my swim for tri course starting Monday so will hopefully build confidence there. And thanks for putting me in touch with Wazelle - turns out she lives half a mile from me! |

Nice swim last night at Boundary park. It was lovely and warm in places too. I did the short course to start, popping back from time to time to check on OH. Then turned it into the full course, followed by short (1150m) then I saw the OH by tge buoy on the short course so thought I'd catch her up and see how she was. After a full lap of the short it turns out it wasn't her at all. About 1750m in total. Lots nicer than a pool and my crawl is getting better. (I think) |

Did Crosby Marina yesterday, which was also warm in places. Best conditions we've had down there yet and IMO would have been a waste not to have swum the full hour (well almost as i was a couple of minutes late arriving). Five laps of about 600m+ i reacon, so decent distance and hoping it'll be calmish again tommorrow night. One thing about the place is it trains you to sight regularly, as due to the nature of the place being a watersports centre, your eyeline is a bit busy with all sorts and the banks are kind of busy too, so you have to focus properly. Still veering off slightly when i don't though, which must be a stroke thing, so still toying with the stroke too. I did loads of pool swimming this winter and spring and got times down really well, but i'm not convinced it's paying off on the open water yet. Does anyone else find that the optimum stroke for the pool is not neccessarily the optimum stroke in a wetsuit? I didn't think about this last year because my pool swimming was in its early stages and my open water swimming was significantly better. However, now my pool swimming has advanced due to pressing down more on my chest, I just find that the requirement to lean forward more on my chest in open water is reduced due to the bouyancy in the legs of my wetsuit. I've also noticed, or it seems so anyway, that i don't need to catch so deep. It feels like a shallower but slightly quicker catch is speeding me up. Any experienced thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. |

I finished my first OW tri yesterday, I was dreading the start of the swim as it was a mass, deep water start, but once I got in I was fine. I started at the back and stayed near the back pretty much all the way around. I finished the 750m swim in 17:55 and absolutely loved it, I don't know whay I have been so scared about it for the last 40+ years!
