Hey CORFU89. "Good" is a VERY relative/subjective thing. But at the root of it all, we're all runners, and that's good enough for me.
I sympathize with your training woes. I got sick right during the peak of training for Boston and it was no fun. Hope you mend soon and get the miles in. I think once the actual race begins, you will be amazed at the extra boost you will get from the crowds at this race. They love their city and they love this marathon and it will show on race day.

Welcome to Fetch Buff Daddy( love the Buff btw!!) and Corfu89. I'm also pretty excited and nervous about NYC marathon as I'm another first timer! It will also be our first time visiting NYC.
I'm hoping for a sub 5 hr finish, just so I can get my name in the NY Times the next day! 4:59:59 would suit me fine!!

Hi Girlie! Thanks...you are going to LOVE this race. It's worth all the effort! New York 2004 was my first marathon and it was amazing. I learned so much too. I'm sure you've gotten a lot of good advice here already.
I would chime in that for this particular race, it's a tough balance since you will be wanting to stay off your feet a bit before the race but also get your money's worth in tourism along the way (and there is a lot to see in NYC). It might help to build a bit of an agenda that will include some off-feet time (the bus tour, as mentioned above is a good idea).
The other point I would add (and this applies to any marathon) is to focus on the variables that are under your control (training, pace, hydration, nutrition, kit selection) and try not to fret over variables that you cannot control (weather, the crowd, the start time, etc.).
As we get closer to the race, I'd be happy to provide a NYC-specific checklist of things you might want to consider bringing with you to the start to make yourself comfortable (I'm a bit of a list fanatic, but as I like to say, it's proof that having OCD can pay off!)

I'm with you on lists. I intend travelling in my running shoes as I don't trust the airline not to lose my luggage!
The bus tours have been mentioned and sound great, and would be a fun thing to do with our Little Miss who will be nearly 6! It will be her first time abroad and on a plane( she is doing it in style!!!)

That will be a lot of fun. I was 5 when I took my first plane trip to the West Coast of the US. She's in for a real treat in NY! (As are you all)!
I'll be prepping the race day list shortly and will share once it's ready.

Boab: I'm bringing my wife along and sending her to mid town to do the Finish Line Banquet at Tavern on the Green. NYC will be my 25th marathon and it's my way of thanking her for her tireless support of my crazy running habit. That said, and given the ticket cost $200, I have instructed her that she is not to leave the banquet until she has consumed the value of the ticket!!! So I will be driving home. (But I'm a diabetic, so I don't drink anyway. That gives her a full time designated driver!). But I am all for meeting up with you all after the race. I know some good pizza joints in mid-town. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING beats a slice of NYC pizza after a marathon....

me too choccie monster!!!!
When I started running I said I will never run a marathon, but I am very strangley looking forward to this race and am really enjoying the training.
Buff Daddy, pizza, now yer talkin'. Mrs Boab has also been instructed to go the Tavern on the green, I am not sure she could consue $200 (£100) of food/drink so I will be provding her with a ruck sack
I am sure that there will be a Fetchie meeting after the race, would be good if you could come along.

Hi Buff - lots of good info in there for us. New York will be a first for me too but I'm an old hand too and have finished 26 marathons including Boston in 1991. Wished someone had told me to hold back in that one - my quads were mashed by 10 miles. I read about the men's marathon the day before and will be very keen to watch it too. We've got a couple of weeks on the east coast after the marathon before heading home - any advice on places to see or things to do would be great.
