guising is different and we used to do 'penny for the guy'

rant alert
[- but the modern version with bought costumes, plastic crap decorations out and pumpkins - what was wrong with swede or mangolds? and why are the innards wasted and the remains dumped?
and an expectation everyone has a tub of sweets* to dole out has gone a bit far

(also - current morrisons advert that implies buying two sweet tubs for £7 is a way to save money - buy one for £4.50 or not at all!)]

We used to embrace the kids coming round but we rarely get any visitors there are no kids in our street (well they are all teenagers+ now) but they never bothered neither. Its def too americanised now. We used to stick coins to some of the sweets and the biggest we mostly didn't. I suspect other kids are following no decorations don't go rule. I normally take the family kids a load of sweets round but I've not even sorted that this year, the 2 older lads have braces so no sweets allowed I'll take them something at the weekend.

As kids we cut up a turnip (how hard was that! kids don't know they are born) and I still love eating raw turnip. My mam is appalled at all the pumpkin that goes to waste as she love's pumpkin soup.

Pix, you haven't eaten well for the 2+ weeks you've been with your mum so hope you enjoyed the cooked for you breakfast. Praying all goes to plan smoothly today.

Run done didn't want to come back.

We don't put decorations out (some of the houses in the town have been really well decorated) but we always get lots of kids coming round with their parents. I don't mind buying some sweets for them and quite enjoy opening the door and yelling BOO! when they knock.

If I was in I'd have the sweets in but we go out on a Thursday and this week possibly with parentals.

Some of the decorations around here are very elaborate, I nearly jumped out my skin last night as there was a giant werewolf in the window!

Some elaborate ones around here, don’t like the fake cobwebs (they trap birds apparently).

Have been for a run now going to do my yoga.

I have replaced the batteries in the TV remote.

The old ones were flat, so it wasn't working.
