I was concerned I had another hernia as symptoms were similar to the last one but despite there being a small hernia they won’t do anything with it. There is definitely something not right and hence the wonder if it’s menopause related.

@geordiegirl what is this about endometriosis and HRT? I probably had/have endemetriosis but I was never diagnosed as I kept moving country and health system, then I had babies and it eased for a bit, then I controlled it with progesterone pill, and for the last few years (this month aside for some reason) my periods have been kinda fine.

They really should be investigating IBS, gg. My bloating was so bad that I thought I must have it and saw my GP about it. I was referred to a clinic and eventually had a scan and then a colonoscopy. By then I'd realised it was the HRT but they wanted to be sure it wasn't anything else.

Sorry I was out for a fabulous meal with family.

So endometriosis is fed by hormones so taking HRT can bring back the endo growth. I was diagnosed with stage 4 endo when they finally did the surgery to investigate, I was 21 with knackered fallopian tubes so kids was never an option. Could have gone for IVF but I couldn’t look after myself never mind a baby.

I then developed adenomyosis resulting in a hysterectomy at 28 and ovaries removed as pre cancerous at 38. The intent then is to go cold turkey to let the endo die off then start HRT but the minimal dose brought the pain back within weeks so no other option but to go through menopause unaided and with zero information around to support/research. I had the most horrendous time no-one in my world could relate other than mam’s friends who went through the natural peri route not an overnight switch.

But I’m here 17yrs on feeling better that I wasn’t losing the plot all those years and have answers to some of the randoms in my life. But this stomach issue is now doing my head in hence the start of looking at cause of bloating and whether that is meno related.

Maybe time to push for another appointment at the GP but I’ll do my food diary for a few weeks first. I have bunion surgery end of the month.

Crikey, you really went through it, GG. I will mention my history if/when I get to HRT stage. I am going to US for 3 months and don't want to have to navigate their healthcare system so I am waiting till I come back.

I'd be inclined to investigate your digestive system rather than your hormones, @geordiegirl. And as Little Nemo says, IBS is a diagnosis that should only be made once other potential causes for pain and bloating have been ruled out, especially when the symptoms first develop in someone who's no longer 21. At least, with your ovaries having been taken out, that's one less thing to worry about.

Thanks Vrap, think it’s with the ads for supplements to help with bloating that sent me on this mission.

Icy if you don’t have issues with endo hopefully you’d be ok but def worth mentioning and keeping an eye on things. Good luck.

Thanks, GG. I am fine now but I used to have bloody vomit and bloody stools, not to mention terrible pain with my periods. At first, par for the course, I was fobbed off with painkillers. In Canada and Iceland, drs took me seriously but I just wasn't in Canada long enough and had other priorities and Iceland, I got pregnant about a year after moving and it all calmed down. I'll definitely add it to my list of thigs to remember, along with premenstrual migraines with aura.

I had surgery for both endometriosis and adenomyosis and I’m on HRT, it was never suggested that either would be an issue when taking it, and it definitely hasn’t caused any pain to come back so I’m not sure it’s one size fits all

@geordiegirl I had a TAHBSO with endometriosis and adenomyosis 16 years ago. I'm on tibolone HRT which includes testosterone. Not really had any issues either.
