Such a worry that people are being put off HRT and trying to cope. It has so many benefits. I know it doesn’t suit everyone but being scared to even try it or having pressure to “help yourself” instead. No harm in doing some stuff to be healthy as well as trying HRT. The mind boggles. |

Quite. She did have some stuff that would be helpful if you didn't know it - exercise, look at alcohol consumption, sugar, caffeine - but it was buried in the depths of 'mindset change'. Ugh. The problem is that although I work at a university, initiatives such as this are often organised by the support staff, who might not have the same commitment to evidence as the academics do. We have a menopause research group that is run by academics. I would love to know what they thought of it.

Ffs, i’m so sick of hearing about menopause as “just” being a bunch of unpleasant symptoms that we should either battle through or use fairy dust and unicorn visualisations to enable us to get through the day without annoying other people. Loosing our sex hormones is a medical condition that increases our risk of death. Why for the love of Goddess would we NOT treat that with medication that has a good risk benefit outcome. I mean you don’t have to spend much time Googling to get decent evidence, just one example here: pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov @LindsD I’d definitely complain to the powers that be for putting on this shower of a presentation. |

Promoting unproven remedies and making people scared of tap water is worse even than the days when a brusque GP or gynaecologist would bark, "Fresh air and exercise!" as the treatment for all women's hormonal issues.

And there are evidence based consensus statements from professional bodies out there that could reasonably be distilled into a presentation for a non-medical, non-academic audience.

I think it irks me more that it’s a woman gaslighting us into thinking it’s all in our heads.
