@Shades .. I agree re. Frankfurt, it was like finishing in a disco with all those cheerleaders lining the finish and euro disco blaring out. Quite a heady experience after running 26 miles!

@wardi it certainly adds to the endorphin rush when finishing a marathon.

Munich was good finishing in the old Olympic stadium.

Loved Frankfurt. Aside from the cheerleaders and glitter cannons, I relished (or rather inhaled) the pint of Bitburger at the end of the race.

I loved Frankfurt, but Luxembourg has a similar ending, and theirs is a evening/night race where the whole principality comes out to party!

My club went to run Luxembourg one year, over 30 degrees and evening heat is worse as the roads have absorbed the day's heat.

It was warm the year I went, thunderstorms started but never really got going. Cooled down after midnight though thankfully.

Two half marathons I did this year were hellishly warm, Berlin and Budapest, just shuffled around beside the two hour pacers for most of them.

Thank you for sharing your experiences in Frankfurt. I'll definitely pencil it in for 2025. I just find it hard to train for marathons in summer when I have to deal with weeks of daily highs around 30-35°C. When I still lived in Britain, I usually ran a spring and an autumn marathon because it was easier to train for it when I can run in 20°C or less all year round.

@Hills of Death (HOD) I've done Rottedam twice. Once we stayed at a hotel right near the start just before the Erasmus bridge, the second time I just drove over from home in the morning and was able to park right in the centre. Realistically, Rotterdam has a decent metro system, and every line goes through the Beurs station, which is where the expo is and the start, so if you wanted to stay further out, jut make sure you are near a metro stop and you should be fine.
