Yes, six hours. I'll be going into the event with disrespectful preparation. There was a time when I might have been quite confident of coming off the bench and gritting out a 6 hour marathon, but that time is not now.

I'm quite sad that, currently, I'm a long way from having that sort of confidence myself. It's making me less and less likely to risk entering, just at the moment. I've been looking at the marathon at Chantilly Castle, I used to live just round the corner, but I can't be doing with the faff of the medical note! |

I'll do a medical note for you if you need one, DeeGee. I'm still on the medical register. (That puts me off entering events in France at the moment too.) |

I ran Istanbul in 2017, it's very similar to Athens an amazing start, fantastic finish but just a boring highway in between, however that was partly due to lots of construction. I would imagine there is now moree to see than there was back then. Its flat & running across the Bhosphus into Europe across a long suspension bridge is pretty cool.

Just looking at travel insurance as it’s up for renewal early March. I’m currently with multisport, but I see they’ve added a new policy wording exclusion relating to marathons that says “You are not taking part in a league or competition”. Probably I need to call them, but do you think an official marathon race is a ‘competition’ for my purposes, or do you think that is something to do with being an elite? But then what about amateurs who may win a prize, not that that impacts me of course?! While I’m at it, are there any other recommendations for insurance that covers marathons abroad? |

Just checked mine (HSBC) and I guess I’m in the market too Big_G as it states:- “…there is no cover for: An insured person training for, or taking part in any race, time trial or organised sports competition, performance or tournament…” I’d never read it before😬 Foxy that’s the plan. We’ve been to “beach/sailing” Turkey a few times but never Istanbul. Really looking forward to it. |
