Surely Ankwdon has a legacy program? Anyone who’s done 10 should automatically get a place ?
Berlin & Chicago do & hoping fit that status in Chicago - fingers crossed.

Not a marathon obviously, but have entered the Achill Island half marathon in Ireland, it’s meant to be quite scenic.

I did Funchal Marathon in Madeira yesterday. It’s a stunning island and we’ve made the most of having a hire car to get around. Mountains, and sea views, fishing villages with bars selling fish. Really enjoying it.
As for the course, possibly to make the elevation of the race manageable by keeping on the relative flat, the course was something of an odd one. The first 20 miles consisted of 4 out-and-backs in a general westerly direction, and the final 6 miles consisted of 3 loops near the old town. But the course was a nice okay, with regular views of the ocean on offer. The marathon started at 7am, but it did get warm (25deg local weather was saying) in late morning, and there wasn’t much shade on the second set of laps.
There was quite a small field in the marathon, but numbers for the event overall were boosted by a Half Marathon and a (approximately) 8K event on the day of the race, which started at different times. This did mean there was quite a lot of congestion at times with people being on different laps in different events, and one section was narrow for maybe half a mile. Also one 150m section that we do twice had thousands of small pebbles concreted in, which was quite difficult to run on. Amazing seeing the front runners though - they ‘only’ did 2:21, but looked like they were sprinting.
I’m glad I’ve done it. It’s a friendly event, not too big, and as I say the island itself is stunning.

Nice one Big_G I did that marathon a few years back and remember all of the out and backs. I had thought that the course was like that to avoid it being excessively hilly.

Looking forward to Seville. I'm likely to be dicing with the sweeper, but I'm quite at peace with the possibility of being pulled off for being too slow.

Gritts, enjoy those two. I did Boston and Chicago last year and loved them both. It’s Tokyo and NYC for me this year. There is a Marathon Majors thread on Fetch if you’re interested in that.
Velo, enjoy Seville. It’s a great race and city. I was talking to someone yesterday who got timed out and in 2022 and he’s going back for another go this year.

Five hour cut-off for Seville? That's a bit severe. Oh, hang on, six hours. Set low expectations and they're easily exceeded, I suppose
