Not quite the same but I’ve just paid 1500 Yen to run a virtual half for the chance to be in the draw for a Tokyo place. Odds of around 1 in 30 I understand. (Not sure of the odds of being able to get there mind). Probably a better money spinner than NY.

Vienna has recently announced its date as the 23rd April next year. Conveniently, the day before the EGU General Assembly that I regularly attend (science conference). It's just one week after Manchester and I'll definitely not be doing two full marathons a week apart but might be tempted by the half in Vienna, which is run simultaneously with the marathon (basically the first lap of a two-lap course). A fast flat course with a strong field if I'm adequately recovered...what are the chances?

Now, is that the same weekend as London?

I've got a hall-pass for that weekend, we'll do daughter's birthday the following weekend instead, so if I'm not in London I'd fancy a go at another European race.

DeeGee what happened with your New York entry?
I've seen that they are indeed limited in number as they are sold out of that category of entries now.

There are definitely worse places than Vienna to spend a weekend break with or without the marathon.

I've entered the event. Just need to do the run, now. Some time in the two weeks between next weekend and NYC marathon day itself to earn myself the guaranteed entry.

I'm using it as an excuse to go down to Milton Keynes in a couple of weeks. I'll run a few laps of Caldecotte Lake on the Saturday, then if something goes wrong between watch and strava I can try again the next day. I'm hoping nothing goes wrong, because I intend using the Saturday night to have a bit of a relax.

Good call. I loved it! I'd stick my hat in the ring again for next year if I wasn't so confident I'll be elsewhere a few weeks later.

I seem to have hit in London which is a little inconvenient as I was looking at Nashville that day so now re working my calendar.

Now looking at Tel Aviv in Feb & return ing to Gdańsk in August.

I’m in ballots for Berlin & Chicago & if I don’t get the latter will be tempted to go via a travel company using the savings from not going to Nashville.

We’ve come away to Nice for Nice-Cannes marathon with the running club. It was very hot yesterday, especially in the second half, and there were a lot of runners in trouble, and a lot of medics flying around. I just took it easy and with a lot of walking I got it done, but they did run out of water at the 21 mile water station. Fortunately I had a water bottle with me (most didn’t) and I joined a queue of runners filling their bottles up from the showers on the beach, which is something I’ve never witnessed before in a race.

Still, I’ve never done a French one before, so I’m glad I did that. Strangely the course wasn’t actually as spectacular as I was expecting. There were some bits that were very nice but also long stretches on long, straight roads.

Nice itself is lovely though. Can’t comment on Cannes as I didn’t stay long there. We’re off to Monaco today.
