The organization of the Font Vella Lanzarote International Marathon regrets to announce the CANCELLATION of the 30th edition of the marathon that was scheduled to be held on December 5 2021.
We can still describe the last year as a strange year and the current difficulties for both of the main collaborators of this event (Sands Beach Resort), and of the municipalities where the tour takes place, led us to this very difficult decision which has been heartbreaking for all concerned. The organising company, after many meetings with the municipalities affected by the route, cannot guarantee its security due to the lack of human resources in the different security forces involved. The modification of the route to comply with the self-protection plan would not conform to what has usually been offered, and would never be attractive to the participant.
We understand and completely empathise with the disappointment and the inconvenience that our decision may cause. We apologise for the inconvenience and disruption that it may cause you. Over the coming week, all participants will receive a refund of the registration fee in full.
We have made so much effort over the past months with hope and hard work with the sole aim of holding this event so we could enjoy as we always have our run by the sea. Each week we had new ideas and breakthroughs and then the next were gone. We were never in a position to update you for definite. Sadly now we are.
We offer our sincere thanks to participants, collaborators, sponsors and institutions for their support and patience for all their work right up until this sad moment to make this event happen.
We hope to be back in 2022. We will work hard to make it happen in 2022.

Go on then, shall I take up my Chicago entry for 2022? I'm in two minds, but I figure that it might be a less crowded affair next year than 2023?

I was really looking forward to it, and had even trained a bit. Wheels have come completely off my season now. I find it hard motivating myself if I don't have a marathon to aim for...

2nd Sunday of October.
Plenty of time.
Just wondering whether there's still too much risk.
Of course, I can defer again, but this time if I do I have to pay to get into 2023.

When do you have to decide?
there is a lovely little marathon in April which wouldn't involve so many miles to get there i.e. Boston

Oh, go on then! I've submitted my application.
As I said to the wife last night, if I put it off another year I'm just going to be even older and even less fit.
