Thanks, I was interested in the wording of the letter given to the recipient of a club place (I benefited many moons ago in FLM days), I remember the wording was along the lines of being awarded the place for being a good club member etc.

I suspect that wording is club specific. When I pinged some emails to VLM about this they basically said the places were for the club to give away however they wanted, and if that meant giving them to non-club members that was perfectly fine. They don't care, ultimately - its for the clubs to decide.

Our club gets 2or 3 places depending how many paid up EA members we have. You have to bring your rejection slip and you get one entry in the draw for each of our races you have marshalled in the year. Draw takes place in the bar after training before Christmas.

Does anyone from inside a club know the "claim" process that needs to happen to make sure that the place(s) on offer to the club get "activated" (or if that's necessary) - i.e. how do we get hold of the login details etc that allow the club member to enter (when the process opens). Our club secretary is away for an extended break overseas, so I've got access to the club's "Secretary portal" with England Athletics temporarily.
Will there be some notification system there that provides the necessary process / details to get it sorted? Or does it come by post to the secretary's home address etc?
I don't want our club to miss out on being able to use the place properly!

Are you sure? That seems a very odd way of doing it. The club secretaries portal has a field for "number of marathon places", so I sort of expected that portal to be used to allocate / adminster the places.
How would they know that the email was coming from a valid athletics club address etc?

In the past, there's been a link when this page is updated:https://www.virginmoneylondonmarathon.com/en-gb/how-to-enter/british-athletics-club-entry/ to show that entries are open. I think you just have to keep checking! There will also be a mention on the EA news headlines page.

...and the secretary will create or be reminded of a login and password, and will need to enter the names and email addresses of the lucky recipients. Then VLM and the ballot winner link up and the club has no further involvement (though I believe just like in any race where an affiliated discount entry price has been claimed, the runner must wear the club kit for the marathon.)

We apply as a club sec (me) and they check with SA to make sure I am the sec for that club! Then I am registered, then put in names and email for person(s) who get the place - and its up to them to sort all after that
