Actually, only 2 places now - they reduced them a few years ago. 1-99 is 1 place, 100-199 is 2, 200-299 is 3 etc. :-) G

I wrote ours three years ago G because some of the guys wanted to have a vote to determine who got with no other criteria. Knowing some of the characters in the club it would have been mayhem and would have made the Scottish referendum look tame in comparison.

Lol Joops. I like transparent and objective. Not keen on cliques and secret decision making! UK democracy is almost fair compared to club politics! :-) G

Agree with all the above - in the absence of a policy, chaos reigns!

Our club only has one place to give out, there are only 9 eligible club members I think, and I know at least 3 of them aren't interested (the rest I don't know at all!). But even so, just doling out the place behind closed doors wouldn't be the right thing to do.

To be in with a chance you have to:
be a paid up affiliated club member
have entered the ballot and been rejected
bring a copy of your rejection letter/email to club for the draw
not have won a club place the previous year

The draw is done on a club night in front of everyone so it is totally transparent.

Our club has the following rules:

You must be uptodate with your subs
Our club year is from 1 November and you must have joined before the previous November to qualify

You must must submit a copy or the VLM rejection slip
If you have already had a club place you may enter but will be placed in the 2nd round draw which is only held if there are fewer applicants than we have places.

Seeing as this year at least 15 people are interested in 3-4 places it is unlikely it will ever go to a 2nd round draw.

The draw is held at the Christmas meal/awards night in December
We get an extra place for providing marshalls at mile 23.

Mini hijack here and slight digression but does anyone have or know the wording of the letter that comes with the club places?

What do you mean Moe? As in a physical letter sent by someone (e.g. England Athletics or London Marathon organisers) to someone else (e.g. club or athlete)?

I'm baby sitting the process this year for our club, so if there's anything I need to be aware that I'm not I'd want to know about it!

Cheers!

Moe: your club sec gives the Marathon people your name and email address; then you get the message below.

We've got the following rules in our club, if there's not enough to go round then names are drawn out the hat at the xmas dinner.

1) rejected in ballot that year
2) not had a club place before. The actual rule might be last 2 years if i remember right.
3) paid subs
