Hello everyone,

After several conversations with a hell of a lot more experienced runners that me, it's been suggested if we do a night recce then we should actually do it coming into daylight rather than into darkness. Which sort of makes sense to me - if something goes wrong etc.

Having discussed this with Lytham RUnner and my L50 running partner we think this is the way we will go. So a slight change of plan we will provisonally do a night time into daylight run on the saturday night/sunday morning on the 18th/19th- subject to weather conditions. However, by doing this I cant provide checkpoint support (Mrs SB although very supportive will not be awake at that time).

So appriceate this is a change, if you guys are not interested then we understand and I will look to organise another night recce later in the year.

:-)Bob

I don't think that would work for me SB - it would mean starting at about 2 a.m. you mean? Not sure how that could be done logistically when we're coming up from Manchester. I understand the logic but think I would be happier doing a run that ended in darkness, even if it is riskier etc. There would be risks involved in driving up at 1 in the morning!

But you must do what you need to do - I'll be doing the recce on 1st April (35 miles! helllllppppp) so will at least do that section one more time before the race.

What date do you plan this recce, and at what time of day, I've got a bit confused.

I'm confused too :-)

The plan was to do a run on the 18th Feb around 5.30pm from Ambleside to Coniston but we may now do it from 3am on the 19th

I will be planning more runs so will let people know what and when.

Hey, Deja Vu, it was around that time that I left Ambleside, it started to get light around Skelwith Bridge and was fully light by Chapel Stile. That section is fairly straightforward. The section from Chapel Stile to Tilberthwaite can be tricky, and the last 3 miles are the worst as you are really tired by that time and it's easy to make mistakes. Be careful on the final descent too.
By 3.00am do you mean during the night of the 18th or Sunday.
