Not by any reasonable standards, Sharkie. I did curls and bench presses to fatigue, and some trivial twiddling around with my midriff to space the sets, and that's all. It's just because I'm so out of training. Next time I'll be fine.

If your weights follow the pattern of your running there'll be a huge improvement on your second session.

I'm supposed to do gym again on Monday, but Marlon did say it could be lighter. We shall see.

I'll be starting back in a week or two. I'll be doing lighter weights and same reps as normal (5 reps). The lightness of the weights will be to the point I might feel that I'm not really working even moderately, but I know from experience that DOMS happens if you start with a weight you can manage but feels fairly hard, it's never the day of the session that's the problem.

I know a commonwealth Olympic lifter via MSC who when she comes back from a break will start really light (for her of course, it's all relative).

I suppose that was a long way of saying Vrap's plan going forward is good, lol.

That's all vaguely comforting to hear.

My only 'slight' worry is my increasing years. It's that 'exponentially' thing. the rate of decline that is. However, on reflection I'm not too worried.

What will be intersting is how things progress or otherwise over the next few weeks. I need to get serious about stuff I do NOT related to my events.

5k run-walks FFS! WHY? I was never much cop at 5k even when I was a distance runner!

I don't think I've ever even tried a chin up before!

It's all about priorities. I'm under no illusions; I've got two reasons for lifting weights. The first is to hold on to as much muscle mass as possible going into old age and the second is to have shapely arms and shoulders for vest-wearing season.

Oh I completely go with those two - but I do need power for my events. It's encouraging to think I can improve my throws, and jumps come to that.

Most of my stuff has a large dollop of vanity involved. :-)

Another session done this morning. I'm hoping for the second bout effect as regards DOMS.
