Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

A few days ago I made a couple of things to raise our standard bar and smaller diameter weights up to a reasonable height (i.e. same as an Olympic bar on the floor) to improve the starting height for Fellmouse and the Deadlifts that she's doing.

May see if it means V'rap can deadlift too.

Had to try it out - as you do :)

It DOES make it harder with the smaller (in size) weights - I managed at the gym but if I can grab the bigger ones I always do (not heavier just more plastic).

It's even more annoying if you are trying to clean and press - and I can't do that with heavier weights so it's a dinky barbell (15 to 20 at the most) on the floor for me.

It makes a massive difference. In terms of deadlift I can't imagine doing really low, back would round which isn't good for getting it off the floor and at heavier weights would risk injury

If MSC didn't have 5kg full sized plates, I doubt I'd ever have learnt to snatch. I've just got to the point where 40kg can be used to practice technique (so can get away with hang snatch as warm up). Previously when not at MSC, I either had to use weights to lift bar further off the floor or stick to hang snatch.

Mr Ness has set up our bar to be at a level that an Olympic bar would be at with 45kg plate. He's used makeshift blocks so the bar is 9 inches off the ground when I start my lift. I can now manage 50 kilos total weight... 3 sets of 8 reps.

I don't think I shall try any heavier with my deadlift mind you. Think that's my limit for my resurfaced hip.

That sounds like a reasonable weight in your circumstances, Ness!!

SPR - that was my thinking too. Even though Fellmouse is not tall and so is V'rap, losing back form is asking for trouble!
Raising the bar to 9 inches seems OK though.

Quite pleased with my first attempt in ages!!

That sounds like a great plan eL Bee, I wish my gym had something similar as I'm not remotely flexible enough to even attempt a deadlift!

I attempted deadlifts.

I'll attempt more when I'm less dozy in the head.

I find the lower weight warm ups Mr Ness gets me to do make a big difference, Vrap.
