First time I was taught to clean it was a mix of deadlift, arm pull and a reverse grip curl, took me ages to get the hang of it after that, so teaching yourself properly is certainly something to be proud of.
Cleans have a huge toll on the CNS, leaving them till last when you're tired means you won't get the most from them. I'll always program them first in a session for when someone's fresh and moving well. 3 sets of 8 is a lot of reps for an Olympic lift. I did 3 sets of 5 yesterday, that was enough & I'm feeling it now. Never used a trap bar for deadlifts, mainly because I've never had access to one. It's on my list of kit to buy, but can't afford one at the moment. I tend to use rack pulls for extra height on a deadlift.

Lead in your heart LouLou? I'm guessing you've been unwell?

No dead lifting with PT tonight, as hamstrings are still a bit tender after kettlebells on Monday after not doing a class for so long. Fair few back squats to start though - worked up to 40kg, then back down to 30kg for 3 x 8 reps (middle set with belt on to practice breathing technique). Knee is pretty tired, but he said anyone watching wouldn't realise I was recovering from a knee injury, which is good.

Had a seminar with Terry Hollands at our gym on Saturday - he's huge.... Size 17 feet!
Really nice guy - helped the guys with their atlas stones. Been working hard on my DL - only 5kg shy of my previous PB now - really hoping I can overtake that over the next few weeks. Also been doing loads of strongman stuff, delighted that I got my heavier tyre to flip without help
More squats required....

Nice one Duracell👍
I went up to 40kg for the last set of cleans and did all 8 reps & when I remembered to drop my body at the right time it was almost too easy😉😀😀

After worrying about my knee & a fall on Tuesday, I managed a decent enough session with the PT tonight. I seemed to really struggle with my grip in deadlifts tonight though, especially with my left hand - I've got some straps for next time, but it's the anything else anyone would recommend to help?

Try chalk & working on your grip strength while you use the straps so you don't become dependent on them. Straps are fine, but you'll lose grip strength if you become over use them, so hand health may suffer. Try working your crush, supportive and pinch grips. You'll also need to work on your extensors.

CMR gives good advice. Don't use straps for all your lifts, just the heavier ones.
Some use a mixed/ alternate grip for heavy deadlift.
I use hook grip (hard on your thumbs before you get used to it) but will use straps for heavier lifts.

Never used straps here. I use mixed grip and lots of chalk!
Farmers carries are also useful. When I do weighted lunges, I use bumper plates and pinch them, rather than use dumbells, or kettlebells. That definitely helps me.

Today as part of wellbeing week at work I attended a weightlifting workshop and really enjoyed it. I've done the standard gym machines and wee weights but this was much more fun despite the bars being heavy without any added weights. I'm going to try and incorporate at least one session a week to start with.
