My jumper is going to have two second sleeves, because I've decided (with a little help from my youngest daughter - "that makes you look like you've got bingo wings, mother") to frog the sleeve I've done right back to the cuff rather than ruching it slightly where the arm joins the shoulder, and make the sleeves narrower. I should have trusted my measurements - I KNEW 108 stitches was what I needed, but I went and increased up to 124.
The bulk of the sleeve is just rounds of stocking stitch with 4 increases every 6th row, so it won't be too laborious

aaaargh, v'rap. although better now than when you've finished and sewn it all up.
how do you know how many stitiches you are? just past experience?
will you increase over a greater number of rows?
sorry too many questions.
me too, nicki, although most of the time i can get away with it

I measured the armholes and did a sum based on my tension swatch, RD
It helps that the yarn - Adriafil Knitcol - is an absolute dream to work with.
I'll make the increases less frequent (the original was every 4th row until 100 stitches, then every 6th row, then worked straight, but I'll go for a more gradual increase) and make the sleeve slightly longer because it's 100% wool and might shrink a little.
I might put a picture of the body up on Ravelry in the meantime.

oh yes, tension swatches and sums. i forget people go for the logical approach
yes please to piccies.
i was just about to start a beanie for male cousin when i wondered if the pattern i have might be a bit dull. so i've now been side-tracked by ravelry again, although i suspect the pattern i have is just fine...

Tension swatches and sums are a waste of time if you don't act on the information they give

Almost almost finished my little Chinese cross stitch picture. Decided to stick it in a frame and give it to an aunt for Xmas. Hurrah.

I was looking for crochet projects last Sunday, and realise I must find cheap sources of yarn (not yet brave enough to try eBay, but not quite sure why); I've just done the sums and found that the throw I was contemplating will take 84 balls of cotton and cost £415!

It isn't a cheap hobby, KK! Certainly doesn't save money compared to just buying stuff.
eBay isn't all that brilliant for cheap yarn. Most of the buy it now prices can be beaten elsewhere on the internet, and you can waste a lot of time searching for and watching items that get bid up over their actual value - it probably isn't worthwhile. I play on there but end up deleting about 95% of the wool on my watch list without bidding.
Got 450g of Rowan Cashcotton for about £15 including postage last night, though
