that seems to be a grand wee shop that you've found V'raptor I'm buying a lot of my wool/yarn in Perth these days as around the art gallery there's now a few craft shops - I particularly like Elena Costello's as she has knitting goodies in the front shop and felting goodies in the back |

Cambridge lacks a decent wool shop All we've got is John Lewis, and a tiny department at that |

hello....i don't knit or crochet....but when I have time i do like to cross stitch and at some point when I'm retired and have lots ore money I'm going to take up quilting again. On my visit back to the states last week, I discovered just how many cross stitching books and kits I had bought. Quite a few. Will have to eventually get them all over here. By the way did you all know there is a quilting and general craft fair that goes on in Alexandra Palace in October (i think it's october.) And there is a massive quilt show during the year at the NEC Birmingham. (They say quilt show, but they have something for everyone!) |

john lewis was brilliant for knitting stuff 20 years ago, it's rubbish now. they've been a bit slow picking up on the fact that knitting and crocheting have got really popular again. i've never knitted socks, either, hb. and i need patterns too the only thing i 'design' are motifs and i keep those really simple i felted a bag once, but i didn't like what it did to the flowers i'd knitted an sewn on to it. i keep meaning to reknit the flowers and sew them on in their non-felted state but i keep forgetting! i love the blanket you made sarahl, rb it's a patons wool, v'rap. i think it's supposed to be aran weight. it's very rough to the touch - not sure how it could ever be used for clothing! i think i'll take them down to my friend who is doing the stall with her sister and see what she thinks. but as i'm not happy with them i'm disinclined to go on knitting them! i might have to come up with something else for the stall instead... think i might go back to the single blanket i'm making which is stars and stripes and i need to make a start on the lacy wrist warmers i promised my cousin... |
