Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Well done on the 3 million, _andy!

I've just done my 5000m for IWD. Used it as a bottom tier Rowalong session though went a little faster than his suggested pace.

Do I have to authorise Fetch every single time to read my C2 log? I thought previously the permission stayed for a while.

It will happen in time, Andy. Good things come to those who wait, and prepare ...

Something similar with me this morning. It was the 40 minute push row, which is a toughie. Last time it was start at 2k+25 and accelerate by 2 seconds every 4 minutes so final 4 mins is at 2k+7. This time it was start at 2k+23, so one segment quicker. I was struggling in the final segment and eased off with a view to paddling to the end but then decided to man up and hit the final 2 minutes as fast as I could to try and make up the pace (which I couldn't of course). Still a decent session though. I attribute the wobble not so much to the couple of pints in the local last night, more to the couple of Southern Comforts ...

10 day course of antibiotics started today to clear up this tonsillitis. I don’t think I’m going to be doing anything remotely energetic until early next week at best.

Until Monday when this started up I’d logged training every day of 2023.

Annoying, Nellers, but you’ve done brilliantly and bouts of illness have to be worked around.

Oh no Nellers. I didn't know we could get tonsilitis in adulthood, I thought it was only for kids (I had mine out as a toddler). What a bummer. Sending healing vibes in your direction ...

SK, I have to allow Fetch to read my log every time so I guess the permission isn't sticky. I wonder if that's to do with Fetch or C2.

12 x 3 minutes with 90-sec recoveries this morning, instrux were to hold and then improve on pace of last time, which was 10 reps at 2k+5. Objective achieved but it was a sweaty one.

More sympathy for Nellers - sorry to hear that - hope it improves soon. Take it easy until then.

sallykate - I'd have to agree with Muttley about clicking on that Fetch "allow C2" link every time I row. I have that link as a saved shortcut in Fetch, so it's easy to do. But I do forget until the next day sometimes.

12 x 3min is a good interval session Muttley, especially with short rests. Well done!

My own short rests today were for c2ctc.com which is 6 x 1km with r1min [not long enough!] Was pleased to improve (almost) each interval, which says something for good pacing, but my legs ached (muscle fatigue) at the ends of the last two intervals and I struggled with the final 400m at the very end. Only a few tenths of a second slower than hoped for at the end, but still annoying, which is daft since the session felt really good (honest!)

Aft'noon folks. Sorry for some newbie questions, but thinking about buying a machine for home as an alternative to running, and firstly are cheap-ish machines worth it? I've only ever used a Concept2 in the gym, so no real experience to go from. Thinking something like this.

decathlon.co.uk

Also, does anyone use kinomap or similar?

Are you all set up to auto-download from the concept2 log to Fetch? I do a manual upload from C2 as a TCX then import that into Fetch so I get all the splits/ rests.

Sam Jelfs Decathlon kit is pretty good generally but there's a very good reason that Concept2 rowers are considered the gold standard. They need almost no maintenance, last forever and hold their value second hand quite well. You'll probably pay a bit more for a used C2 than a brand spanking Decathlon machine but you'll get more life out of it too, and you'll always have a market to sell it on to if you don't stick with it.

The drawbacks with that particular model that I can see are that the footplates look like they rotate whereas you really want the footplates to be fixed for a good solid leg drive. Also the rail that the seat runs along doesn't look very long and the handle at rest is almost directly above your toes. Ideally you'd want the ability to get a longer stroke there (with good technique) by starting your drive with the handle past your feet.

Thanks Nellers - I had a quick look at I can get a C2 for not a lot more than the decathlon one, so long as I am happy to drive 100+ mile round trip to pick it up, nothing for sale on gumtree with 50 miles of here. One issue I have is just the physical size, it will live in our spare room, so being able to fold / move it easily when we have visitors is quite a useful function. Food for thought...

There's a few quality rower brands out there (eg Concept2, WaterRower and others) but the Concept is the one most designed for hard use and abuse. More industrial-grade than consumer.

It also has a large online community, more so than the others (afaik). It's the standard for gyms, rowing clubs, military units, oil rigs, etc etc. Muttley Jnr had one on his submarine when he was in the Navy.

It is expensive, esp when bought new, but it holds its value and is designed to be easy to fix in the unlikely event of something breaking. I suspect that if you want to get rid of the Decathlon rower you won't get much of your money back.

And also, most of the training plans and sites (eg RowAlong) and online coaches use the Concept2.
