Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Agreed, Muttley. The plan I’m following is all stroke rate based, and gives me a pace and hr range for that rate. At the moment I’m working to the rate and finding that gives me the right HR range but I’m rarely at the suggested pace.

Meatloaf must have been a rower because I agree with him that 2 out of three ain’t bad.😉

7:22.2 for my monthly 2k progress check. That’s another 6 second improvement in 4 weeks and 21 seconds since 7th Jan. I feel absolutely awful now, but that’s very much as it should be isn’t it?🤢

Nice one Nellers! That's great gains in 2023. Remember to keep comparing yourself to the 2023 version and just aiming to be better than yesterday.

I've hit week 4, session 5 of the Rowalong 2k plan which calls for the 2k test. I even had a rest day yesterday, although that was due to being at the DofE Scotland Conference all day and going for a cathartic run afterwards. Currently steeling myself for a tough session...

So on feeling awful after the 2km I started coughing afterwards and put it down to “2k lung” but I’ve felt worse and worse as the day has gone on. Had a couple of hours in bed this afternoon and I’m now full of cold.

Not sure if I rowed ill or if rowing tipped me over the edge into this. Paracetamol are my friends right now.

Hope you're feeling better soon Nellers.

I often find I'll do a really good session about 12 hours before I come down with a cold, almost as if my body knows: "you're going to be taking it easy for a while, here, have some extra oomph today".

Oh no, not the dreaded man flu Nellers. Lemsip and vodka are what you need. Or just vodka.

Thanks folks, but it wasn't to be 😞

I normally push on, even when things get desperate, but yesterday just wasn;t my day and two-thirds of the way through, I wobbled and then binned it. "Handle Down". I know how I feel on good days, ready to really go for it, and this wasn't one of them. Maybe the roast dinner from my brother & family at lunchtime played a part too (hmmm...)

Analysis: first 500m was easy, trying not to go too fast (1:46 pace), the next 500m wobbled a bit (1:48.4 pace), with warning signs coming a bit too early (800m?). With a previous 2k pace of 1:47.7, I was targeting 1:47.5, rowing the first and last 500m sections at 1:46.5 and the middle pair at 1:48.5, so this was all fine. But with 3 minutes to go, it was even more of a struggle than it should have been and I gave in to those voices saying to stop 😥

So I've felt lousy since, not just at not pushing on for a final two-and-a-bit minutes of struggling to breathe, but feeling that a faster 2k is just out of reach. Of course, it's not, but I need the stars to align to get it right - right time of day, rest day before, diet choice correct (but those roast potatoes, that stuffing, and the yorkshire puds, were great).

Still felt drained at 6:30am this morning, but have just noticed this, so I'll dwell on the positives and pick another time to shave a second or two off the 2k PB.

That's a similar distance to what I was running 10 years ago, so I need to find a balance to mix running & rowing in the future.

ION (and my shoppnig list for the next week):

* don't forget to row a 5k piece at any speed on Wednesday if you have a C2 logbook - log.concept2.com
* Row a 1k TT this Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat or Sun for this: log.concept2.com
* Row 6 x 1k intervals, r1min for this: c2ctc.com
* Row a bunch of intervals for the C2 monthly challenge group on FB - facebook.com - you might have to join the group, but it's worth it (fairly quiet with not much traffic). That's row 4 mins - rest 4mins, row 3mins - rest 3mins, row 2 mins - rest 2 mins, row 1min - rest 1min, row 3mins - stop. Post results here: docs.google.com

Plenty to keep busy with! I'm also going to play around with the Real Time feature that was added last week to the ErgZone app, and keep the routine going for the March C2 "Mud Season Madness) challenge, but only going for the 5k a day (not 10k) this year - log.concept2.com
