I hate 2k tests, nearly-but-not-quite flat out for 7 or 8 minutes and plenty of potential for it all to go tits-up with a minute or two left. It's telling that I did my best ever one in practice when there was no pressure. I wasn't quite able to match it when I raced it at BIRC a couple of weeks later, fully tapered too (this was 20 years ago, mind).

Cruelly, there's one to start this month's c2ctc ( c2ctc.com ), I've been putting it off but must have a go soon.

Did it this morning. A fairly conservative 7:37.6 for the first 2k given that it was 7 AM and I’d barely downed a cup of tea, and then 1:49.7, 1:49.3, 1:48.8 (I am not a sprinter) for the 500s. I could likely nip under 7:30 for 2k at the moment, but CBA.

While I was doing it I remembered that it's actually the old indoor rowing distance of 2500m that's even worse, but I only raced one of those, at the Southern Indoors when it was in Basingstoke. Raced to 2000m and tried very, very hard not to blow up in the last 500m :-/

Blimey Oranj! That's hardcore mate. Well done though.

I did 2000m warm up, 5 x 1000m with 2 minutes recovery and 2000m warm down. the 1000s were at about 8.15-8.20 pace for 2000m so I'm pleased with the progress so far.

I'm away at the weekend so won't get another session in until Tuesday now. Wondering about doing a 2000m time trial then as I'll be well rested.

Had a bit of spare time this evening after we got home from Leicester so I nipped to the gym. Half an hour of rowing done including a fairly well rested 2k tt.

8:09.7. That's getting pretty close to the sub-8 target already. Quite pleased with that.

I'm going to give it another couple of weeks and have another go.

I think I need to start doing some shorter stuff to get my pace/power up a bit. I was able to do the last 300m or so at about 2.00/500m pace and I reckon I could have upped it to that earlier but I didn't have the confidence to go for it.

I reckon doing more hard, short efforts will give me the strength, and the confidence in the strength, to really go for it next time.

You can do it Nellers.

You only need to find 1 second every minute.
