Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

There is a Fetch online team: log.concept2.com Perhaps I should join. At the moment my metres are being added to the YACF (Yet Another Cycling Forum) online team but I don't visit that forum much these days.

Ooh. Nice. I’ll have to check that out tonight and see. Maybe we can get the team back together.

OK, I've signed up and joined the team. That makes 4 of us active ont here I think (although there are a few names on the list I recognise that aren't actively logging their rowing).

I've just noticed that, on the new-style training pages, I can't see a way to switch my Garmin HR trace from distance to time.

I'm using the garmin to get an idea of effort when rowing but witht he GPS turned off. It pickes up odd movements here and there as strides but that makes an absolute dogs breakfast of HR x distance stats. HR X time would be useful but I can't see a button to switch it.

(The old-style training pages can still be selected and allow this, I know.)

Am I missing something or did this go when things were upgraded?

Arrived at the gym today after a very late night (bed about 5.30) and having drunk beer and eaten too much, then woken at 9ish and dicked about for a couple of hours about whether to go or not.

Planned to do 10 x 500m after the warmup. Managed 1, then warmed down and came home.

Sometimes you can't overcome with willpower alone!

Yep, the erg will find you out, you just can't faff about on it.

My 920XT will also pick up the rowing movement as "strides" with the GPS switched off (although I used to get HR/time data off it OK). I have recently picked up an old FR60 off eBay for £15, which will pair with a PM5 to get reasonable pace/HR data. It's not perfect, because the FR60 uses "smart" recording rather than once per second, but it's not too bad.

I have transferred to the Fetcheveryone online team. I seem to be logging quite a few metres at the moment, which is a bad thing as it means I'm run-injured.

Why don't you just put your watch on the floor?

At least you went to the gym Nellers, nice intentions :-)

I'm planning my assault on the 8 min 2000m on Wednesday lunchtime, i'll keep you posted

I strap my watch round the middle of the handle so I can see it through the whole session.

I'm fine with ignoring the distance it shows me but it wouldn't half help to be able to just flick it to display against time rather than distance.

From the rower you seem to be attempting to beat - main thing is making sure you get the technique of actually rowing correct, makes everything so much easier. Use your legs not your arms. As a fit bloke you should easily be able to beat 8 mins with a bit of training! Concentrate on keeping your average split below 2, and try to row consistently with ten hard strokes every 500m to keep things interesting and bring back any time you might have lost. I'm trying to beat 8 myself this term, so the challenge is on!
