Wow... that's impressive if I'm reading correctly... I am definitely very slow at the moment
Our rowers are not concept2. I'm going to check out what they are as I've worked out myself the meters to miles... have a little plan brewing
So, so you all see a difference in running when you add rowing in, I know Hellers your not running at the moment, I'm just thinking it's interesting to know the result, and also what kind of routines people have
Off to the gym soon, my running is still "dormant". I can run two miles ok now, what I need to do is add some longer runs in.. I think I am scared to go further actually so I need to do some head work too !
HB, that C2 you've got at home now is a really expensive ornament unless you start making use of it. I don't think it would take much time on it to get your time down by quite a lot. Also get TF to have a good look at your technique and set good habits from the start. Much easier than picking up bad technique and having to correct it later.
FRU, no running for me for a while still. I'm trying to do 3 rowing sessions, a couple of swims each week and if I can fit it in a turbo session and/or some basic strength stuff. It's all been a bit flexible in terms of when I do what so far but I'm trying to establish a proper rowing plan for the next 12 weeks and stick to it more strictly.
Great new PB, Nellers! And I'm sure there's more [pain?] to come when you tweak the pacing.
This is probably a stupid question, but here goes...
I'm just returning to rowing after a back injury, so am trying to build it up slowly and focus on technique. My default stroke rate seems to be around 30 and I'm finding it difficult to slow it down. Although I've been focusing on the leg drive and keeping my back straight, I still find myself rowing at the same pace, and if I deliberately slow it down, it just feels like I'm just pausing at each end of the stroke, so I lose the rhythm. It's almost as though there's not enough resistance to the stroke but that doesn't make sense, because I'm not very fit/strong at the moment.
Any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong/how to sort it out, please?
I'm not an expert (my coach is YouTube!) but it sounds like you're doing everything right except trusting it.
One of the Dark Horse clips I've used basically says that when you're playing with stroke rate you want to still "connect" fully through the pull phases but slow the recovery down so you get that rest (if I'm understanding him correctly).
I'll see if I can search the specific clip out for you but I think you've just got to trust it and practice.
