That's a really good marker you've put down there Nellers well done, should give you the confidence to push on towards your race👍

Indeed, Craggy, and thanks. I was expecting a fight to beat 7:15 so this was great. I actually felt under control through to about 1300m or so before it really started to bite, so maybe I could have been a bit quicker in the first half and got away with it.🤷🏼♂️ Anyway, I’m planning another 2km in a couple of week and then again a couple of weeks after that so I can a) practice and b) judge any progress, so we’ll see. And today I did a 60 minute session of stroke rate sequences which was harder than I thought it would be! Then again, 2:15 pace off r16 isn’t going to feel easy is it? |

Firstly, a belated welcome to Spendap! Looks like you're doing some useful base-building there, Muttley. I'm going to struggle to get anywhere near you in the league this month. Great result on the 2K, Nellers. That all looks very promising. Look forward to hearing about progress between now and the race. Thanks for the encouragement, Craggy, but I'm going to have to give the Midlands race a miss. I was in two minds anyway because I don't think I've been doing enough work at higher stroke rates for the past few weeks. And now it looks like we're going to have builders in from the Monday after the race, so I'm going to have to spend the weekend clearing space for them to work. So the plan now is to complete the beginners' Pete Plan (6 weeks to go), then work on 5K/10K over the summer, and then target BRIC. |

Sounds like a good plan CW. Before CW messed up my plan I'd been thinking that the year would be a progression of half mara, 10k, 5k and then top the speed off for BRIC, which is kind of similar.

I had no idea I'd managed to mess up your plan, Nellers - I'm not quite sure how I managed to do that but apologies anyway!

Def a good idea to schedule a couple more 2k tests Nellers as it's a difficult distance mentally, so good to practice. Nice low rate power today 👍 Haha you'll thank me for messing up your plan when you smash out a stonking 2k at MIRC 😁 there's still time to move on to the HM afterwards. Good plan CW, the 5/10k training will get you in great shape before moving on to 2k training. I did a classic Pete plan session today 8x500m/3:30r, but due to current fitness levels I just did 6 reps because I was knackered 🤣 1:48.3 average, and happy to put a line in the sand! |

When I did this 2k I set the monitor up as a re-row of the last one I'd done, and the display to the pace boat. Until recently I thought that was a bit of a gimmick but I found it really helpful to have that target to aim at. I've done the same on the 6 x 2km tempo session last night and it really helped there too. Had anyone spotted the "Virtual WOrld Championship" event on the Concept2 Log page? log.concept2.com Row a 1000m between 4th and 8th March, log it by 10th March and you're in. Actual Factual medals awarded to top 3 in each age category. I think I'll be able to fit that into my programme, although looking at the times from last year I'll be targeting a top-150 place rather than the podium! |

That’s a good line in the sand, Craggy. Hopefully you’ll be back on form soon. Thanks for the tips, Nellers. I might have a go at the virtual event, just to have an incentive to do some speed work over the next few weeks. There are some seriously impressive times there but if I got anywhere near my PB I might just about scrape into the top 25%, so that’s something to aim for! I’ve tried the re-row setting on my longer/steady pieces just as a quick way to set up the split times I prefer but I didn’t display the pace boat. If you row uneven splits and then re-row that piece, does the pace boat reflect the splits you rowed last time or your average pace for the whole piece? |
