Oh it hurts alright!
Mrs Mousey said to me just now 'you're looking a bit tired, maybe you should do less rowing'.

MT.. the stroke thing can only really be addressed by training your short stuff at a desired race pace. = 8 x 500 and 1 x 1km etc. I took mine form a 28 to a 32/33 .. made a big difference.

Nice going Nellers !
Much kudos for going for it. Look at it this way. Had you got to 1500 metres with plenty in the tank you'd have always wondered why you hadn't gone out harder !
Onwards and upwards.

She may have a minor point there, mate. I mean, like I said earlier, you keep this up and you'll be beating me soon and no-one wants to see that.;-)
First and foremost the effort tonight got me a PB and I'm proud of that, so everything that follows should be taken in the context of that and my acknowledgement that I'm not very experienced at this lark.
So the main lessons from tonight:
1) 10 strokes to get going is too much. 5 would be better. MY HR was up very quickly and I guess I was paying off a little oxygen debt from very early. 2) The more I do 2k tests the better I'll get at judging the feel of it and how hard I should be making it feel. 3) HR tonight was a bit lower than during the 7:20 I did a few weeks back which must indicate an increase in fitness, right? (Last time ave 174/max 181. Tonight was ave 169 ave/174 max) 4) I need to do more Level 1/Speedwork because holding a pace wasn't the problem, it was hitting that pace int he first place! I worked out that I've done less than 8k of efforts at faster than tonight's pace in the last 3 months! 5) I need a chunder bucket. I had to leap off and get out of the shed before I started retching. Didn't actually bring anything up but it was close!
So ultimately its a decent marker to put down but it's a waymarker, not a destination. Onwards! Always onwards!

Blimey, I wander off for a few hours and a whole bunch of new pages appear! Well done to Nellers and Mousey on the new pb's - stonking times, guys. I'm glad Mousey's 0.9 seconds on top of the 8 minutes has gone, I found it visually distressing ... If Tiger Feet could only do something about that 0.1 second
Jef - it was only just over 4 miles but on tough, hilly, and sandy terrain. Will resume the longer runs soon.

HellsBells and I are both trying to get Tigerfeet to give that a go over the Uni Xmas holidays. Not sure if we're winning but we're trying, if only to save your OCD Muttley.
Jef, I think you're right and that's how I felt last time with teh 7:20. Convinced if I'd gone out harder I could have hung on for a 7:16 or 17, but I'll never know now.
