Good run this morning. Nice to be back out now the snow has gone but the roads were still flooded in parts. Just an easy 10 to get loosened up. Took a few pics along the way. Looking like snow again tomorrow. Hope not as I have a run planned with a pal.

4 miles this morning, cold in the stiff breeze down by the river. Just Exceeded 80 miles target for this month, which I'm happy with.

But the aim is 80 miles a month - so I'm not going to go mad and run unnecessary miles, seeking consistency and longevity.

11m Long Run. Cold, wet and windy. A bit like running through a car wash on rinse mode :-) Happy with 11'/m pace. Visited Sandal Castle on the run. The moat around the ruins has filled with rain; wish I had taken a camera with me.

Blizzard: the Sandal area used to be regular run territory for me. I played at the rugby club for 10 years, and loved circling Pugneys. btw, I've never seen the castle's moat full of water!

5 miles this morning, and like most it was cold wet and windy. I did plan my route along the canal path however so the scenery more than made up for the dismal weather, although the patches where it was flooded made for cold wet feet to match the cold wet hands 😃

just read about the castle :-0

Shakespeare's play Henry VI, Part 3 (Act 1, Scene 2) is set in Sandal Castle. It describes Richard's sons urging him to take the crown before news is brought of Margaret's approach. Act 1, scene 4 then depicts the death of Richard at the Queen's hands. This brief fictionalised account bears little resemblance to the history as we understand it today. The play is sometimes performed on the castle ruins.

This part of Yorkshire had two of the most powerful castles in the north: Pontefract, and Sandal. Richard, Duke of York, died there at the battle of Wakefield in 1460.
