Good point swittle...my runs will probably vary from 1.5 miles to 4 miles at the moment. I'm trying to figure out how to factor in a dog walk for the neighbour - maybe put it at the end of my short run - ie go for a jog, pick up dog, walk it, take it home, head home myself.

I now collect the dog from the front door of the retirement home she lives in.

My first marathon was cancelled. And I can't make the new date. Before it was cancelled, even though it was very much on the cards, I went out and did the 8 miles as planned. Got home to the email cancelling the race. Decided I'd keep as close to my plan as felt reasonable, keeping up the week day 8 milers, but scaling back a little on the Sunday long runs. Ha!

Next run was also planned to be 8 miles, but with speed bursts, and 'stuff'. I just ran a gentle 8 miles and ignored the plan...

No parkrun Saturday so I found my own route. As with all parkrun 'B' courses, this was a little longer than the actual course...

This Sunday just gone should have been my 3 1/2 hour run. Instead I went for a little over 5 miles. A gentle run, about 50 minutes. It was actually a relief to not have to run for any huge distance, but it was nice to get out. A little strange in that I saw people I would normally tag along with for a mile or two, but obviously right now it was just a case of shout hello and wave from a distance.

So much for keeping to the plan. But, actually, I'm okay with it. My news feed is constantly shoving an article in my direction on why marathon training is never wasted. I may even get round to reading it...

Decided I will do a run/core, alternating with longer walk/core+weights regime, the walk days will have some sort of added cardio, kettlebells probably, considering a Turbo Trainer for added blasts

I'm now WFH and have been asked to keep of the VPN so it's available for essential workers, between 8am and 6pm. So whilst I was running this morning at 7am the penny dropped! I should have worked first, signed off at 8 and then gone running. D'oh!

Loadsa runners out there. Many of whom don't look like regular runners. ;-) (Is that a cotton tee shirt and pyjama shorts you're wearing?)

I've ditched the speed, hills and tempo sessions for general running. Currently I'm doing 3 x 1 hour and 1 x 2 hour. OH says I shouldn't be doing the long run, so I might switch to 5 x 1 hour. I've also had to cancel my fitness classes so it might even change to 6 x 1 hour :-)

Westmoors, yes, that was my general thinking, all my runs will probably be easy I might even have a go at building time/distance, perhaps hilly (I don't have a choice), for endurance, and harder cardiac work with kettlebells, jumping about and stuff.

McG, back a few pages, OH intially quite polite in asking the hipster beardo's to shave and then was considerably tougher, private words, and there are inspections!

I did my run on the golf course. Quite a success. I think I shall blog about it.

About This Thread

Maintained by Canute
Covid-19 case numbers continue to rise exponentially in the UK.

It is even more crucial to do everything we can to slow the rate of onset of new cases. Nonetheless, exercise remains important for our health.

The relevant piece of the legislation in England is:

The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) Regulations 2020

Restrictions on movement

6.β€”(1) During the emergency period, no person may leave the place where they are living without reasonable excuse.

(2) For the purposes of paragraph (1), a reasonable excuse includes the needβ€”

(a) to obtain basic necessities, including food and medical supplies for those in the same household (including any pets or animals in the household) or for vulnerable persons and supplies for the essential upkeep, maintenance and functioning of the household, or the household of a vulnerable person, or to obtain money, including from any business listed in Part 3 of Schedule 2;

(b) to take exercise either alone or with other members of their household;

-----
That is an abbreviated version. Here is a link to a more comprehensive specification of section 6:
legislation.gov.uk

Similar regulations apply in Scotland, where section 8, (5) (b) states:
(b) to take exercise, either alone or with other members of their household.
In Northern Ireland, section 5 (2) (b) is the same:
(b) to take exercise either alone or with other members of their household;

In Wales, the regulations state that you can leave the house no more than once a day for exercise, The relevant section [section 8] states:

(b) to take exercise, no more than once a day, either alone or with other members of the household.

-----------

Here is a link to the guidance regarding a reasonable excuse to leave the house, issued by the National Police Chiefs Council (for England):
college.police.uk
Note added 26th May: unfortunately the clear guidelines issued in April have been taken down and replaced by a more complex collection of documents.
-------------

The fact that the government accepts the importance of exercise places a responsibility on us to exercise in a way that reduces our risk of becoming a clinical case rather than increasing our risk.

Here is a review of the factors that influence the relationship between exercise and function of the immune system
