It just keeps getting better! Today had my first sub-10 minute ave pace with 9.53 miles at 70%. Am so delighted! Although can't help thinking this won't last and times will drop again once weather improves. Or maybe I also need to recheck my resting HR and perhaps my 70% rate will need to come down...

Well done Anoushka. Sub 10minute/mile pace is sub 10 minute/mile pace whatever the weather. Some of my faster runs have been in good weather and not always cold weather. Keep thinking positive and im sure you will keep on improving.

Well done Anoushka that's superb. Looks like Glover's plan is working for you. Thanks for all the recent advice, but in the end I'm going to go with a RW plan. There's no way i could fit in Glover's 5 day training programme, so I'd end up not doing it properly. Thanks again

well done anousshka
I had been doing 10.30 for 70% for ages then on a short (3ish mile) run to the gym which was more down than up I saw my first sub 10 (a few months back). thought it was a one off but gradually other runs became sub 10 or only just over 10, initially it was just teh short runs then a 7 mile run was near to 10 a few weeks later.

Morning all, I'm back!

10 miles average 70% 157 bpm this morning at 11.12 miles/min pace - some of which were under 11 miles/min!

The first two were the slowest, there are some ups in them, and then I sort of settled in a bit. But very chilly out this morning and I've split my tights!

Hope everyone's well.

Just back from my run.
disappointed with pace and time, I really thought I had done better than I had.
Feeling slightly off colour today which may be a partial explanation.

4.02 miles in 49:59
Avg pace 12:26/mi
Avg Hr 145bpm(69%)
knee was fine etc, but now have serious concerns about my fitness levels and it certainly looks like I am back at the beginning.
I really didn't expect to have to start all over after the marathon:-(
I thought there might be some fitness and pace left afterwards. I was wrong.

I struggled round then! I seem to be getting a bug of sorts, so hope that is the explanation.

Blimey. Just did a 8.5mile run at 70%, and averaged 8.30min/mile. I'm beginning to see real progress now. Very happy :-)

I should have known I was coming down with something after doing 5 miles in about 11:45 mins/mile for sub 70% on Thursday. I'm a bit poorly now, hot/cold/shivers etc. Oh well lets hope its gone before the big day, but there goes my chances of doing 100 miles this month.

Everything you need to know about training with a heart rate monitor. Remember the motto "I can maintain a fast pace over the race distance because I am an Endurance God". Mind the trap door....

Gobi lurks here, but for his advice you must first speak his name. Ask and you shall receive.

A quote:

"The area between the top of the aerobic threshold and anaerobic threshold is somewhat of a no mans land of fitness. It is a mix of aerobic and anaerobic states. For the amount of effort the athlete puts forth, not a whole lot of fitness is produced. It does not train the aerobic or anaerobic energy system to a high degree. This area does have its place in training; it is just not in base season. Unfortunately this area is where I find a lot of athletes spending the majority of their seasons, which retards aerobic development. The athletes heart rate shoots up to this zone with little power or speed being produced when it gets there." Matt Russ, US International Coach
