eL Bee!
Ahhh - 6 weeks off, a Rubbish Runner the Bee makes!!!!!!
HR and legs would have struggled to go any faster, and although the average was below 70% (157), the max spike was 170 (in Mile 6, the most uphill one)
So..... need to lose about 9lbs and do some running!!!!!

Just popping in to say Happy Christmas to all. I'm still injured - see clinic forum.
I am *really* looking forward to 2008. I will definately be able to run at some point in the year.

Good to hear Lucky. I hope 2008 is a better year for you. :-)

Rebel, try doing the numbers again as Hendo suggests.

Erm, elbee, I didn't realise you hadn't run for six weeks! Crikey! Ah well, at least you have made a start, you'll soon get back on form. :-)

eL Bee!
It's been a slightly troublesome time with one thing and another, Ian!
I hope that getting back to it will be relatively problem-free :)
Thanks Lucky :)

have run once in 10 days and that was a week ago :-(
started with a weekend away, then giving blood, then I did a long run, had Christmas no one then a cold which turned to sinuitus and it's still with me
but mummy & daddy Christmas gave me some money so I hope to get myself a nice new 305 in the next few days
started to get frustrated and want to get back to running and training for FLM

HR maxed at 186 yesterday. I'm 44 and thought my max was 178, or possibly slightly higher. Is this cheerful?

Hi ALS, it's possible that the latest reading of 186 is your true maximum. Was this on a test or just a run? I'm your age and mine is 185 ish. It's nothing to worry about really, everyone's max is different but it seems to make little difference in athletic ability. Probably the best measure of fitness is how quickly one can recover from maximum heart rate back to normal after a long period of high exertion.

Everything you need to know about training with a heart rate monitor. Remember the motto "I can maintain a fast pace over the race distance because I am an Endurance God". Mind the trap door....

Gobi lurks here, but for his advice you must first speak his name. Ask and you shall receive.

A quote:

"The area between the top of the aerobic threshold and anaerobic threshold is somewhat of a no mans land of fitness. It is a mix of aerobic and anaerobic states. For the amount of effort the athlete puts forth, not a whole lot of fitness is produced. It does not train the aerobic or anaerobic energy system to a high degree. This area does have its place in training; it is just not in base season. Unfortunately this area is where I find a lot of athletes spending the majority of their seasons, which retards aerobic development. The athletes heart rate shoots up to this zone with little power or speed being produced when it gets there." Matt Russ, US International Coach
