Went to local club for the first time tonight. 1m jog to meet, then 4 x 1m with 2m recoveries. (I may have taken 3mins on a few)

Told to do it at 10k pace but was put in the wrong group to start with and went too fast.

BUT, I did complete the 4 reps, and ALL 4 were over 85% avge.

TImes were, 6:42 - 7:07 - 7:07 - 7:21 (I think)

Put the first 3 together and I was Well under 5k PB time, so it was far too fast but I enjoyed it!

MAybe, Hann, I have to say that was the hardest session I have ever done, it was hot and humid as well. But a definite bonus as I really pushed on as everyone else was, on my own it would have been quitsville after 2 reps.

well done on finally making it to your local club, just think how much you will improve if you go regularly and keep getting pushed like that. sounds like a tough session. I always find that my first interval is slower than the rest but your first one is the fastest!

eL Bee!
Lums - nothing wrong with a 'harder than you expected' session!
:)
Before you know it you'll have 1m reps that are ALL sub 7 :)

Hann - That's one of the reasons I didn't get the 305!
The Polar strap is more comfortable!

I did enjoy it (when it was over). I do think the guy running it made a "slight error". He asked me my 5k PB (22:50 or 7:20 pace), and then said, right we will run these at 10k pace, you should probably go with these guys here.....

SO off we went, 1 minute later I glance at the Garmin to see I am running at 5:50 pace, slowed down and let them get on with it and after the first rep found another guy to run with for the next 2 reps. Last one I did on my own, and was dying horribly from 0.4 to 0.75m, but then happily, as the finished runners came into sight the old Lums sprint kicked in, and I managed push the last quarter in style.

Definite 70% session tonight though.

I find anything around my chest horribly constricting... a contemplating trying one of those crop tops with a slot for the hrm thing, so you dont need the strap...

Everything you need to know about training with a heart rate monitor. Remember the motto "I can maintain a fast pace over the race distance because I am an Endurance God". Mind the trap door....

Gobi lurks here, but for his advice you must first speak his name. Ask and you shall receive.

A quote:

"The area between the top of the aerobic threshold and anaerobic threshold is somewhat of a no mans land of fitness. It is a mix of aerobic and anaerobic states. For the amount of effort the athlete puts forth, not a whole lot of fitness is produced. It does not train the aerobic or anaerobic energy system to a high degree. This area does have its place in training; it is just not in base season. Unfortunately this area is where I find a lot of athletes spending the majority of their seasons, which retards aerobic development. The athletes heart rate shoots up to this zone with little power or speed being produced when it gets there." Matt Russ, US International Coach
