Doing a temporun tomorrow, well if the storm dies down by then! So it will be interesting to see what the HR does when I run at my desired racepace for 10km, which is 4.50 min/k...

Yes - it would certainly seem from that, that you could run quite a bit faster in races!
And how hard do you breathe at 5min/k?

oops Hann - slight miscalculation on the 70% - it's 150!
:)

Means that you've been racing 10K at a Recovery Run Heart Rate! :)

Lucky you
[goes to bet on ALL Hannekes forthcoming races!!!! ;)]

Homer - Hope that it sorts out that little anomaly for you :)

eLBee, I hate being uncomfortable! My last 10k I was actually quite uncomfortable and promtly took a chunk out of my PB...

My breathing can be laboured, as I suffer from exercise induced asthma...

I have a 10k race on Sunday, on a flatish course, so we will see! I am reluctant to wear the HRM, as I find the strap around my chest really tedious and constricting... if I loosen it up it falls down :-(

10k IS uncomfortable though!
It's the kind of race that you can build up to racing at 85%WHR and higher with appropriate speed training!

I used to find that too - the hard plastic ones are the worst - but now I use a Polar WearLink (soft one) and hardly notice that it's there!!

Then again, it is me who wants to run a sub 50 10k, not anyone else... as soon as I have achieved that, I can focus on fell running till the end of October, when I have a sub 1.50 half marathon attempt.

Hoping that by keeping track of both pace and HR I am able to perform better!

Everything you need to know about training with a heart rate monitor. Remember the motto "I can maintain a fast pace over the race distance because I am an Endurance God". Mind the trap door....

Gobi lurks here, but for his advice you must first speak his name. Ask and you shall receive.

A quote:

"The area between the top of the aerobic threshold and anaerobic threshold is somewhat of a no mans land of fitness. It is a mix of aerobic and anaerobic states. For the amount of effort the athlete puts forth, not a whole lot of fitness is produced. It does not train the aerobic or anaerobic energy system to a high degree. This area does have its place in training; it is just not in base season. Unfortunately this area is where I find a lot of athletes spending the majority of their seasons, which retards aerobic development. The athletes heart rate shoots up to this zone with little power or speed being produced when it gets there." Matt Russ, US International Coach
