I've done that, ran to the dentist a while back!

The main problem is at the moment it is school holidays, so have LMG to entertain etc, I can get out on Tues and Thursday as my mother comes and has her, and can do week end, as WW is at home.

The 4th session will be the treddie during the summer, as I can use it in the evenings, when WW goes for his run and when LMG is in bed.

September will be easier when she goes back to school!

She can't ride a bike! She's 5 1/2, we walk plenty though and run around the garden and park.

did my first ever sub 70% run at sub 10/mile
not to get excited about as I cheated !!!
a) it was a linear run to the gym which had downhill but no uphill
b) it was only 2.88miles!!!

going home was 10.45/mile after the body pump class

They all count hellen!!

I cheated a bit last night too. went out for a 70% 9miler, but couldn't quite get the new stride and HR to match previosu results and basically settled for 71/72%. Got to 9 and thought, I feel good, so carried on, ended up doing a half-marathon! First time over 10 miles since FLM, and 1min under my HM PB all at 73%. I think I could have done another 3 miles as well, but HR was drifting quite a bit over the last 3 miles, was really struggling to keep it below 75% for anywhere near the pace I did the first 10 miles at but felt great to run the distance again - thought I never would.

Last time I did 13 miles (apart from FLM) was 1st April!

eL Bee!
I cheated last night too
:)

11 miles at 7:30 pace

Just because it felt good and I could. No idea what my HR was (chest strap has gone AWOL), but judging by my breathing and lack of leg tiredness, it was a smidge below 80%

Grey Area - yes
Smooth - Oh yes
Enjoyable - very much so.

My WoB is a VERY good indicator of my actual HR/effort, and I use that more than glancing at my Polar these days.

[footnote]
Doing 100km and having a weeks run/walking in the hills is very good for your running :)

hellen - Lums is right - they all count :)

Lucky you Fetch! You can run at those efforts, but according to the bible, and I cannot remember why, they don't deliver the right results.

Hmm. All I can say to that is "good question"!

My gut feeling is though is that because 75-80% runs fall into the 'grey area', they will not benefit in terms of HRM training. May be a useful indicator of marathon pace though, which should be in that window.

I'm pretty sure that it is the mileage and speedwork that is aiding your 70% pace though.

looks like monday is the day to cheat. I dont normally run on mondays will have to do it more often.
am trying to do 6 runs a week instead of the usual 5 which I why I chose to run to the gym and back for my body pump class. Wont be doing that much longer cos the class finishes at 9.15 and it is getting dark now by then.

If I had done a double on monday ie am and pm could I have done the pm run as an 85% run if sun was LSR?

Everything you need to know about training with a heart rate monitor. Remember the motto "I can maintain a fast pace over the race distance because I am an Endurance God". Mind the trap door....

Gobi lurks here, but for his advice you must first speak his name. Ask and you shall receive.

A quote:

"The area between the top of the aerobic threshold and anaerobic threshold is somewhat of a no mans land of fitness. It is a mix of aerobic and anaerobic states. For the amount of effort the athlete puts forth, not a whole lot of fitness is produced. It does not train the aerobic or anaerobic energy system to a high degree. This area does have its place in training; it is just not in base season. Unfortunately this area is where I find a lot of athletes spending the majority of their seasons, which retards aerobic development. The athletes heart rate shoots up to this zone with little power or speed being produced when it gets there." Matt Russ, US International Coach
