Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

its easy TMW just put it on and press the red button twice! the beep is annoying though, I've just done a tempo run and forgot to turn the sound off and the limits were set for sub 70% beep, beep, beep........

You need to enter your user details first, ideally, age weight, height, gender, RHR MHR etc.
To turn the zone alarm off go Settings, General, Sound and untick the TZ Alarm box. You might also be able to do this from the quick access button (top left) during exercise.

I did a sub 70% WHR recovery run today and stayed below 70% for the whole 5 miles. AHR 143, 65%.
Really feel like I am getting somewhere with all this now. :-)

Evening all, I have been doing my 70% runs and I can see some good improvements in my base running.

I have signed up for a hilly 10km (as my first one!) at the start of September, so I need to practice on hills, any ideas on the best HR method for this? Thanks :)

Firekat - yes, stick below 70% on the way up, and push to stay at that level on the way down. Easy!

Just a short 4 miler for me tonight, 67% average, 9:09 pace. VERY happy with that.

I did a bang on 70% warm up run tonight before an over 85% tempo run...woohoo!

Probably won't happen again, but it's a start.

Easy!?!?! My HR went up to 178 on the tiny hilly bit. ( 70% HR is 156)

Thanks Hendo :) I will give it a go.

Sad thing is I tried to run up the trail but had to walk. I will try to run up the road next time, hopefully will be slightly easier.

Oh I can do that - on the flat. When I first started doing it I felt like the fields were moving faster than I was!!

I wonder if my HR walking up the hill was above 70%? It certainly felt like it. I will practice tiny tiny steps on the next hill I encounter.

Thanks :)

Everything you need to know about training with a heart rate monitor. Remember the motto "I can maintain a fast pace over the race distance because I am an Endurance God". Mind the trap door....

Gobi lurks here, but for his advice you must first speak his name. Ask and you shall receive.

A quote:

"The area between the top of the aerobic threshold and anaerobic threshold is somewhat of a no mans land of fitness. It is a mix of aerobic and anaerobic states. For the amount of effort the athlete puts forth, not a whole lot of fitness is produced. It does not train the aerobic or anaerobic energy system to a high degree. This area does have its place in training; it is just not in base season. Unfortunately this area is where I find a lot of athletes spending the majority of their seasons, which retards aerobic development. The athletes heart rate shoots up to this zone with little power or speed being produced when it gets there." Matt Russ, US International Coach
