Red Squirrel, Yes this time around I am seeing much faster improvement rolling twice per day than during a previous injury when I rolled once per day. But this is one data point, hence the acronyms: IYSWIM If You SEe What I Mean YMMV Your Mileage May Vary IANAD I Am Not A Doctor I did mine this morning, nearly through the first week now. |

Been looking at foam rollers on Amazon - prices seem to vary from about £10 to £60 (not paying that!). Does anyone have any strong views on whether the more expensive ones are really any better? I'm a bit tempted to duck tape some cut off old camping mat around a section of drainpipe, but then I am fundamentally mean. P.S. cheap tumble dryer fluffing up balls are good substitutes for the spiky massage balls!

MrsVanoord, I have this one: tptherapy.com which is pricy but does seem more durable that the foam ones in the gym I use. I believe that making your own with a drainpipe and some lagging has the same rolling effect, you could always try it and see. I don't think the "rolling" effect is any different between the one I have and a firm foam one. I don't think that the grid on it does anything. If I understand correctly, regular foam ones come in different degrees of firmness. I used to think that the white ones in my gym were just the oldest and most knackered ones, but after I read that foam rollers come in different hardnesses, I think it is actually that the gym's white ones are softer than the blue ones. I also have one of these which is awesome despite seeming ridiculously overpriced and unnecessary. I used to use a tennis ball but kept deforming them! tptherapy.com |

Physio added 3- new exercises.......... Very exciting ( not) 1. straight leg push knee down, hold 2. Sitting flex leg behind, push back with other leg 3. Sit with leg as straight as possible foot elevated try to straighten leg as much as possible! She also increased analgesia so I can move my knee so she can start doing some Rom exercises with it. Also told me off for not using walking aids! Still no verdict if I will ever run again! Still peeved at diagnosis of grade 3 knee arthritis On plus side lost 4lbs! |
