I always carry my own as you cannot always trust whats available and when and it may not be the type you agree with. My personal plan is 4 gels taken at 5/10/15/20 but actually I might make it 5.5/11/16.5 and 22 this time
I am not sure that they actually have any benefit but I am not brave enough to try without...even though I have now got to the point that an HM doesn't need a gel or drink (unless its a hot day)

I planned on taking one at 60, 90, 120 and 150 minutes on Sunday, but I dropped two of them on the ground within the first half hour. I did take one at the two hour mark but I could still taste it 20 minutes later and thought another one would do more harm than good! Not sure if I should ditch them altogether (I train without them nowadays, but appreciate that race day consumes way more energy) or if I'd benefit from taking one or two earlier in the race.

I've tried without gels before. It wasn't pretty
I find I need them every 4 miles if I'm at race pace.

I must be in some sort of post marathon delirium, because I signed up for Abingdon this morning, when I had no intention of running another marathon until next spring at least
Don't get the issue with people not recognising fetchies from their avatars, mine looks exactly like dill the dog!

Can't do Chester this year - clashes with other things - but I do appear to have just booked a hotel in Inverness the week before so I can do Loch Ness
Discovering that Abingdon still has places has just thrown a completely new spanner into the works (I'd assumed it would be full by now - usually is)

Just noticed this on the Event Review 2016 page of the race website "...the 2017 race date will be confirmed later this month" so unlike previous years we're not going to have to wait until the football fixtures are released.

I've just upgraded my windermere half place to a marathon place. it's an addictive thing.
my response from xtra mile:
"Thanks for the feedback below. I would like to apologise again on behalf of Xtra Mile Events.
I can ensure you that we are working hard to rectify the logistical issues witnessed on Sunday.
I appreciate this doesn’t fix what happened on Sunday, however, I would like you to know that we are doing our utmost to correct the issues for next year’s event.
Kind Regards"
Doesn't exactly say much

I've also got a (refundable) room booked at Inverness, but haven't yet got around to booking a marathon place. Having got 03:00:59 on Sunday, I'm keen to shave off the extra 60 seconds in the second half of the year. Inverness doesn't feel like the smart choice for such a challenge! Any suggestions for 'fast' courses in the Autumn?
