Kev, London is 42.2 ;-)

The final sentence in the announcement, ie

"The ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon 2016 was not affected as it took place using a new course which is fully IAAF/AIMS certified."

surely carries no real credence, as they promised us in previous years that the course was accurately measured. What if the measuring wheel used this year was measuring short or long ?

Not a dig just at Manchester, could equally apply to any race, unless they use more than one measuring wheel.

Note that if "IAAF/AIMS certified" does in fact mean that they measured using 2 independent wheels then I fully withdraw the above.

I *think* your final paragraph is correct Gus. Well different people, which presumably means two different bikes.

Gus, I did exactly the same!

Looking at the reaction on social media, I am genuinely concerned their will be no race next year. If everyone demanding a refund gets their way then I doubt there will be a company left to organise it. Which would be a crying shame for all of the local residents, communities and groups who supported it and helped make it so special for some of us.

I used to think that the course measurement had to be verified, but apparently not, which makes sense as it would be hard to mis-calibrate two bikes the same.

For world record certified courses there is a need for validation, but it is at a different point, either just before or just after the event. I suppose the latter is for courses where there has been an unexpected record.

For the geeky media.aws.iaaf.org is quite an interesting read.
