It’s when the band make excuses and leave that you’ll need to start worrying

Victoria Park last night for All Points East: Chemical Brothers, Hot Chip headlined the main stage, caught a great set by Roisin Murphy on the second stage. Gave Primal Scream a miss as I saw them only three days earlier.

Popping in for a recommendation: Indietracks festival in Derbyshire. indietracks.co.uk 26-28 July. We've been going for a few years. Steam trains and lots of bands. Have a look at my photos from the year before last flickr.com We didn't go last year because I had a terrible trapped nerve in my shoulder

Good day 1. Without many must-see bands managed to catch some new stuff. The best being... Alteros - Blondie-esque. Good sound and great frontwoman. Larkins - slick outfit with a good sound and a small, keen following. A mix of Black Keys and Gaslight Anthem. Blinders: Awesome. Nothing But Thieves. Not new, but good. But the highlight of the day for me: The Howl & The Hum. Look like all the kids with no friends at school formed a band. And did it bloody well. Great sound and some really good lyrics. See them. Day 2 awaits... |

Saw Little Steven (East Street band) in Kentish Town last Friday. Cracking gig. Played for 2.5 hours non-stop with a full range of music supported by the 14 other people on stage with him.

I've just sprung for a ticket for Israel Nash in Glasgow. He's a name I've heard being bandied about for a year or so but only started listening to him recently when he popped upon my Spotty feed and I'm like, "Wow ! Who's that ?" Right up my street he is. So REALLY looking forward to that. Shout outs for best of recent gigs; Oh Sees (loud, hard rockin', kinda psych), Hamell on Trial (you've missed this tour but when he comes back do NOT miss him), Samantha Fish (definitely knows her way around a fretboard. Looking forward to her next visit ... I'm taking all my mates). Next up - Cedric Burnside on Thu, Low Cut Connie (the following Thu) and Guadalupe Plata (the Tue after that). |

I'm keeping an eagle eye on the weather forecast for Wednesday. Nothing like an outdoor gig (Muse in Bristol) to keep you on your toes!

Joopsy, they were excellent last weekend. I’d forgotten how good they were. Hoping they come somewhere round here soon
