Glad that Billy has still got it and the Beacon was a good venue. I've seen some pictures of it and it looks nothing like the old Colston Hall that I saw so many gigs in when I was at University there.

The acoutics were excellent. Not always necessary with dear old Bill, mind.

Hope you enjoy, Fitz.

I'd love to see Madonna.

Due to car issues we had to miss Militarie Gun in London last night but we still have Nottingham tonight.

Another one at the Roundhouse tonight for Billy Bragg. Very much looking forward to it. Assuming I can get there with the trains not exactly behaving themselves from Basingstoke...

Billy Bragg was great. There were no trains because of a strike, meaning I had to drive to the end of a tube line to get in, never fun in rush hour. The irony in my getting there a couple of minutes after his set started because of this was not lost on me while Billy was expressing solidarity with unions...but as ever he was righteously talking about recharging his activism, largely preaching to the converted in a crowd, for sure, but it really does me good sometimes to be reminded that I'm not the only one who is disgusted with our government. As the parent of a transgender teenager it was great to hear his support for trans rights, which he acknowledged wasn't an easy topic for some (ie, he said, "geezers my age") but talking about this is where the front line of individual rights is now, and if the haters win they'll soon extend it towards reversing the rights of gay people, and abortion rights and so on, is a powerful argument. He's funny and engaging, and yes, the songs were glorious, including a solo encore racing through his debut album in full. 40 years ago and all that...

Took the teen to see an emo/punk band called The Used last night too, up in Kentish Town. That was...less my kinda thing...bit too shouty for my tastes, but hey, if I like being among my people in a lefty crowd for Billy, then it's good for kids who don't really fit in easily to be in among a crowd of other people with dayglo hair and dripping with chains, right? All that shouting can be cathartic, for sure!

Your last paragraph, absolutely - and also geezers our age trying to stay relevant and show some compassion and understanding... that can never be a bad thing.
