Saw three bands in Nottingham last night. Beauty School from Leeds who were great and then two American bands my son is into. Origami Angel and Prince Daddy and the Hyena, both were superb.
quimby All theee bands are playing 2000 trees.

Road trip tomorrow, off to see Pup in Rotterdam, Militarie Gun in Cologne on Tuesday and then the kids are going to see Beabadoobee in Amsterdam next weekend, not for me that one so I will do some cultural stuff whilst they are there.

Hope Blur and Pulp are good, I tend to fond the big gigs like that, especially on a weekend are full of bladdered 40/50 something blokes. Its why Iโ€™d rather travel 5 hours to a midweek gig than see the Arctic Monkeys on a Saturday.

I know so many close friends who love Springsteen and its never ever bitten me, I donโ€™t dislike hom and I appreciate the art, it just doesnt move me. Much the same as Bowie.

Enjoy the gigs folks.

Cheers Joopsy - Beauty School were already on my list. I wish I was camping, now, because extra campsite acoustic gigs at 2000 Trees keep getting announced.

Today is Pop at the Lock in Middlewich - headliners are The Popguns, but amongst the others are Swansea Sound, who feature Amelia Fletcher from Talulah Gosh. Also Hobbes Fanclub, who I camped next to at Indietracks about 10 years ago. ๐Ÿ˜€

Talulah Gosh - there's a band I wish had stuck around a lot longer. Will have to check out Swansea Sound.

Feel the same about Springsteen, Joops. Not Bowie, though. Love him

I don't disagree with this, Joopsy But have to say that at Pulp last night it was a multi-generational crowd with everyone politely sorted out for gin and fizz. And they were great, played most of the hits and Jarvis is still hugely engaging. My wife (who goes to gigs very rarely) and teenage son (who is becoming a pretty regular gig goer) both loved them too, no complaints at all from me :)

On Springsteen, I do fear it'll be a slight endurance test, but hey, I'm prepared to put up with that! And Hyde Park has a bit of a reputation for being too corporate and with shitty sound quality...but again, will put up with that to see someone I've loved for years but never seen before!

In 'smaller gigs' news, I do like the look of 2000 Trees, having downsized from Glastonbury to Latitude for my festival fix about 15 years ago because Glasto was just too big to deal with, I don't have a Latitude ticket this year either (mainly because the bill was a bit average apart from Pulp, who I already had a ticket to see) and have been trying to convince my festival buddy to come to something smaller next year. Will put it on the possibles list!

Swansea Sound are ace, and I very much approve of The Popguns too, hope thats a good one!

Really enjoyed Pop at the Lock. First band were the Proctors, who had a cardboard cat called Gertrude for their 5th member. Great tunes, and I was very interested to see the guitarist's use of the loop pedal - not really noticed that close up; I guess I'm a bit more interested now I'm trying to learn the guitar myself. Hobbes Fanclub were good, and I did enjoy Swansea Sound, wasn't sure what to expect, but it certainly wasn't twee! We missed out a couple of the bands to go for a walk and sit down for a bit - we sat in the car for two 15 minute breaks because the only other seats were pub picnic tables (old bones can't cope!). The Popguns were fantastic, all the hits and some new ones too. The only downside was a 29 mile drive home taking 1 hour 45 mins because the M6 was down to 1 lane, then closed. (I did, however, take the opportunity to listen to some of the 2000 Trees Spotify playlist.) Didn't get to bed until 01:00 and had to be up at 06:00 to do my run before I was on call from 08:00. ๐Ÿ˜‘

Tom Jones last night. What a voice, especially at '83. Sang a lot of great songs, both the ones you know and ones you might not across a range of genres. This was the first night of the Brighton Valley Festival. We were close enough to the front that we could see him without relying on the screens, but the whole backdrop of the stage was a screen that had excellent visuals with images of the musicians and also video accompaniment.

Easy access and egress, manageable queues and the weather was kind. The only annoyance was a large group of women nearby to us that drank and talked the whole way through. We had to move along. It amazes me how some people, and we're not talking kids here, have to drink as much as they can at gigs. Home just after 11:30pm, too.
