Thanks, Loon Dod. Expecting too much there wasn't I?
So... if the map routes are what we see on screen afterwards, that's great ... but how do I do that? overlay the route created in the Garmin onto the map in Fetch?

got the 305 for christmas. love it, no problems so far. have downloaded to sports tracks and motionbased. however elevation and maximum speed record for motion based is 200ft higher and 23mph faster for tonights bike ride. which do i believe.

The elevation feature just isn't very accurate, is it? I'm always being told that I ascended say a total of 1700 feet and descended a total of 1500. After I've run from, and back to, home.
Or is it just mine?

Welcome to Fetch, dodgy knees!
As noted by the previous posters, the elevation recorded by GPS is utter nonsense. However, MotionBased has a feature that will 'clean up' the elevations, presumably by referring to some mega-database of map contours or something. The option can be found in Account > Preferences > Tune-up. I have found that this gives much more sensible results (e.g. symmetric elevation profile for an out-and-back route).

is there a way of turning the backlight on for the whole of a run or just when you hit the on/off button? last nights run was dark despite the few street lights so I mainly just ran for the hell of it as I couldn't see the distance or my heart rate!

EP - go to Settings > General > Display and then select Stays On from the Backlight Timeout drop down.
