According to DCR at least, its a language thing This is because the phonetic pronunciation combo of both ‘Fenix’ and ‘4’ together in Mandarin is basically translated as “fast rise to quick death” – not exactly the branding you want to aim for. |

Fenix 4 - it was something to do with the Mandarin pronunciation of Fenix 4, it was either rude, or something that signified bad luck, can't remember the precise reason, but definitely about how it sounded in Mandarin. Strange what obscure facts are stored away in your memory..... |

They really do do customer service well at Garmin. 2 weeks ago sent them this email:- "Hi My 45S has snapped off the strap, with the parts of the casing broken so it cannot be reattached. Is there anything that can be done? It's a real shame that it doesn't appear to be user-repairable!" with (I think) the serial ID of the watch, which was purchased in December 2020. Today out of the blue got:- "Thank you for your email, please accept my apologies for the delay in getting back to you, and for the issue that you have experienced! I have booked this in for you with the information below, you will receive a separate email with the exchange link, to complete the order: We have determined that your device is still covered by warranty, so I have gone ahead and successfully booked your device for a replacement under Order number xxxxxxxx. Within moments, an email from Garmin will arrive in your inbox, containing a secure link. Simply click on it, and you'll be guided through the effortless order completion process. Please note that the link will remain valid for 60 days." Clicking through, this guided me to a free replacement order, plus a prepaid return envelope. So thanks to @SPR for suggesting I give it a try, and kudos to Garmin for bizarrely extending their 2 year warranty to nearly 4 years, and taking warranty responsibility for something which at face value they could at least have asked "how was this broken?" I'd guess they have a job lot of the old devices lying around and just need to get rid, and for the reputational benefit they get of dishing them out like this it's good business sense. |

Obvs the replacement device is a "refurbished" item, but who really cares when the existing one had 4 years of use in it!

You're welcome Larkim, the same happened to me playing sport which I think it should tolerate (although I wouldn't risk it now) and they replaced it (mine was still within the 2 years). Seems you've had even better service. Also they still sell the 45s so I reckon you'll be getting a new one as well (although not in a new box). When my watch was last replaced I saw new go out of stock at that point and that combined with them swapping me to the music edition because of lack of stock in the standard edition at the time (also verified by checking the website) confirms that. |

The only annoying thing is that as I'd not heard anything for a week or so, I'd taken a risk on a Fenix 5S from Aliexpress at £99 as a better replacement anyway!! Will either be e-baying that, or sticking one of them in a drawer as an emergency option! |

For the first time the Garmin race predictor takes actual race results into account. A feature long overdue. |
