IWrist HR can be accurate for some people. It's an individual thing and there are a few factors that can affect it. The watch manufacturers are hopefully improving those factors but it isn't trustworthy for me yet. I find it's at least in part how well the watch fits the wrist, and hence how much light pollution there is. Having very small wrists I find it hard to get some watches to sit snuggly enough, and the reliability of the HR data is variable. It's better in winter when I'm wearing long sleeved tops and/or gloves. |

Not just light pollution, skin tone is a factor as well.

Runs *are* coming across, but very slowly. Just got a notification from someone I follow who ran at 5.08am.

Yep, there are personal confounding factors definitely like fit, skin tone, wrist size, preferred watch location. I'm only posting that really to evidence the fact that when the optical wrist sensors do find a happy home, the tech in them is robust. Where people get bad experiences there are things they can try to tweak, but it still may not work for an individual. Skin tone is the "worst" factor in the sense that there is definitely a concern that the tech is designed by white men for white men's wrists, without considering how it would need to be adjusted to work on skin tones from other ancestries. After years of chest straps giving me problems (because of static and loose fitting tops, in my case) the fact that I can trust the wrist sensor is really important to me. But I'd not be surprised if, when my 645 goes in the bin in the future, that a replacement isn't quite as good. |

I think my wrist HR is pretty accurate - and according to it I hit 187 BPM in the run in at parkrun today! larkim, you mentioned a slight delay in the wrist hrm readings, how long is that? Can't tell from the graph, though it's most visible on a couple of drops. The reason I ask is that when doing a run/walk, I often notice my hr rising during the walk, for say 20s, stabilising, then dropping after 30-40s. I'm so far unsure if this is an actual thing, or more a watch reading thing. Although the fact that it's more noticeable on longer run intervals does suggest the former. |

Dvorak only a second or two I think. On that graph you can see a small bit of daylight between the red line and the grey line, but it's never more than about 5s.
