Given she's running a marathon, beats per mile here would be an easy useful one without being tied to specific performance numbers.

Ah, while I was typing, more comments were made.

Larkim, your comment in brackets about vdot being a measure of how fast you can run right now at your useable Vo2 max is spot on. It's more about running efficiency than actual Vo2 max.

I also remember that my older Garmins basically gave me the times associated with the vdot number, way above my actual capabilities. The current model has more realistic numbers. If I concentrated on one distance and trained for that, I could achieve that time or close to it. I ran a 44:37 in a 10k in the middle of marathon training with tired legs but if I did 10k training for 12 weeks and then race rested, I could run faster. 42:13 is still a bit too optimistic but I could imagine running 43:xx.

Thanks for that link, SPR. I had a 620 until 2016 and those numbers look familiar. They were crazy fast 😅

I have a Fenix 7x (I snapped when I could get 20% off) and the times it's showing now would be in line with not being in quite the shape I was a year ago, when I could run a bit faster than them - which is true. They don't align with the raw VO2max number for two reasons; they are all slower (around 46 rather than 52), and they fall off at longer distances (which again is true for me, I am much better at 5k than any other distance). Whatever they're doing now seems far better than what they were doing a few years ago. I think that the current "VO2max" is mainly edging those times up and down compared to some kind of general model of how my race times look.

Whereas the VO2max calculations have been pretty consistent across watches as long as I've had one that would give that value. Hover around 52, creeping up close to 54 when I'm super fit (for me), down to 51 when I'm not getting the miles in, dropping to mid 40s when I'm injured and doing in three months what I would normally do in three weeks.

I was pretty close to the numbers for 5000 when I had a 230.

2017 predicted 16:47 ran 16:50
2018 predicted 16:33 ran 16:40
2019 predicted 16:19 ran 16:26

I wasn't convinced by my 245 predictor, it was way too low at times and seemed to depend on me doing high intensity stuff which raised the VO2 Max even though fitness hadn't really changed for predictions. It kind of fits that if I was accurate for the 230, I'd likely be too low for the 245, it's possible updates improved it but never got to test last year.

For reference the 63 VO2 Max was 16:19 on the 230, with the 245, in March 2022 at some point I got VO2 Max of 67 with a prediction of 16:15.

Brunski
Can anyone tell me where I can see lowest resting HR on my 245? It says my average resting is 39, but I regularly see low to mid 35s when I'm chilling out or haven't run hard fir a day or 2.

My old watch (735xt)used to report the lowest number as resting HR rather than as a resting average.

Brunski I often see lower readings on the little graph than the watch reports as my 'lowest'. I assume that the 'lowest' figure represents a certain period of time at a give value - so individual spikes don't count. If so, I reckon they should update the graph so as not to show the lower readings.

I have a 745 which is quite similar to the 245, just a multisport version basically. I see 2 min averages in my HR stats in the Garmin Connect app, it doesn't give me the lowest reading.

In the HR widget on the watch, I see the lowest averages of the past 7 days and the average for the week, e.g. for the past 7 days, I had readings of 49, 44, 44, 42, 46, 42, 41 for an average of 44.

If I compare those numbers with the 2 min averages, I get a beat or two lower in the 2 min avg, I had 4x 2 min at 40 last night but the watch still gave me 41 for the night. I don't know if that's a 10 min average or how it's calculated. It may still mean that there are lower individual beats when 40 is a 2 min average. I have seen 38 when I was awake, just chilling in bed before getting up.
