It's the suggested workouts. It essentially tries to put a plan together for your race from what I can see. I'm not following it put it's interesting to see. I may do something close to the threshold workout it suggests on Wednesday assuming legs are recovered from basketball today (the short threshold effort is a good suggestion IMO) and it seems like it won't be far out from what I do given the rest of the week is easy (not planning to rest on Thursday and will add some sprints after easy on Friday)..

Yes, as Bowman says. For instance, now I have set a half coming up in November, the middle bar of three for load focus has grown longer. The Daily Suggestion has a subtitle of the half I am aiming for, and there is also a Plan Overview at the end of the list of the week's daily suggestions, which indicates the phase of training for the upcoming race, e.g., Peak Phase 16 Oct - 3 Nov, with some explanatory text.

Does Garmin do those suggested workouts on all devices or is that a device specific thing (i.e. will older watches like my 645 not pick anything up)? I've never put races into the Garmin calendar before, but would be interested to track them if it did make suggestions based on up coming races and distances.

It's a newer watch thing. The 245 didn't have it and even some of the newer Fenix models only just got it IIRC.

You can tell whether you have it if you look under the activity (e.g., Run) Menu, Workouts, Daily Suggestions. I don't know of a comprehensive list, but the “lowest” I know of is the 255 according to DCRainmaker dcrainmaker.com

From the link Steve posted For today’s workout I’ve got a structured workout loaded, which is driven by the Daily Suggested workouts. This big change in the FR255/955 is that these workouts are now driven by races you put on your calendar. Previously, the point of Daily Suggested Workouts was basically just to keep you fit. Now, it’s building out an entire season’s worth of workouts and training phases to arrive at your race, taper included. In any event, here’s today’s workout, which is based on my particular recent abilities and training load. |

Not on the F6 then, which will explain why it's not ringing any bells. of the things that always seemed like an obvious flaw.
