Triplet Dad wrote: A good win for Birmingham last night. To come through 2 tough away games against Wrexham and Huddersfield playing Thursday/Tuesday was excellent and with other results mostly going our way there's now an 8 point gap back to Wrexham in 3rd. With 2 games in hand as well on Wrexham. |

On the Kettlewell resignation I understand he alienated a section of the Motherwell support following criticism of their cup exit where he commented he wouldn't listen to anyone who handed ‘dedicated their life’s to the game’. I may be paraphrasing here. Absolutely no excuse for abuse to his family at all. But questioning dedication of supporters is not a great look. Comments on the radio over the weekend made me thing his time was up. His record is better than most at the club but maintaining a good relationship with the fan base is essential. |

@Triplet Dad - that tackle on Iwata had me fuming though. Clear as day red, on our arguably most important player. We looked a bit ragged after he'd been dispensed with. Early word is that it might not have been as bad an injury as it looked, but even so it was lucky. I notice ex Birmingham player Marc Roberts was the Barnsley player who got himself sent off and ended up giving Wycomber the 3 points....

@Chrisull It was a bad one, and the referee was right next to it too. The most noticeable decline in League One from the Championship is the standard of officiating which is incredibly poor.

After 12,332 glorified pre-season friendlies running through until January, Man City drawn with Real. And the next round could feature a Milan derby, Madrid derby, Liverpool or Barca vs PSG. Perhaps it's just me, but instead of a back-door ESL, just give us a straight knock-out competition. |

I would much prefer to have a straight-forward knock-out competition where the champions of each European league duked it out. Jessie J knocked the nail on the head though.......

Champions of Europe? It would be crap. You’d be all moaning when the Romanian champs take a shoeing home and away.

I think I finally got over it not being just the champions. Took a long while. Football changed and the concentration of the top players (unfortunately) but there’s absolutely no drama in the league stage. It serves no purpose other than the obvious. |

There was some drama this time. The new format worked better than I thought it would. If you want the old school format check out the conference league. Basically one team a country and absolute dire quality. |

I think both formats produced plenty of uninteresting games early on, but the new format has thrown up some "bigger" games early on, and mixed up the games in the quarters a bit. Either way the semis and final will look about the same.
