I’ve been fat since I was 8. My parents put me on a diet when I was 11. I started dieting on my own accord at 14, when I was 13 1/2 stone. Oh, how I would love to be that now.... it must be 25 years since I was last under that weight. On the positive side - I have never been back to my all-time high of 22st plus in 2008 and am currently nearly 3st below it. I’m focusing on process, not outcome. Yesterday I had two moderate relatively healthy meals and nothing with added sugar. I did some walking, though not as much as I hoped. Today I’ve already been out for my morning walk, and got the urge to RUN!! Did several walk-run intervals, was mentally (i.e. in fantasy land) doing a return to parkrun and the next London Marathon, but then I paid attention to my body, which was telling me it was starting to feel the effort, and did the rest at a walk. Let’s see how my body feels over the next couple of days before attempting that again. It’s a lovely sunny day here, always good for my mood. |

Lovely positive post RevB, nothing quite like having the urge to run just because.... I think you're doing great, everyday is a new day and that's all we can focus on.

Did anyone see this BBC article on food addiction? I went to OA for a while years ago - when I first started realising that my problem was eating rather than weight. Like many other things I’ve tried, it helped for a while but I wandered from the pathway. I don’t think there’s one single way of beating problem eating. bbc.co.uk |

Fragile Do Not Bend
I know some people would see this as an excuse but I’m convinced my weight is at least partly genetic. Before puberty I was a normal size, but at secondary school I was always a couple of clothes sizes bigger than most of the other girls. Fortunately not big enough to be ‘the fat girl’ though! I also I have emotional issues with eating. I think it’s a pity overeating isn’t taken as seriously as anorexia or bulimia. I know I’m never going to be skinny but I’ll be happy to be a nice ‘medium’ size. Anyway, weigh in today - I lost last week’s half pound gain. Only just though, the scales waited until the last second to drop down half a pound! I’m the same weight I was a month ago so I need to pull my finger out. |

I went to SW thIs morning and so that was a week and a half since last weigh in cause I normally go on a Fri on way to work but didn't last week for reasons I can't remember (age thing) anyways gob smacked to have lost a lb as I certainly didn't feel it. Half a pound to get back into my non paying range so hopefully that and a bit more next week. I am out for eat and drinks tomorrow and Fri but then nothing else so choices can be made.

FdB - Science is on your side: genetic factors have a big impact on weight, as twin studies show. The weight of identical twins is significantly more similar than that of fraternal twins. But biology is not destiny.... I, for example, have always been hungrier than most other people. If we ate the same amount, I would be hungry again sooner. When they are full, I can keep going. I think that's got to be something biological to do with appetite control mechanisms. Add to the that the emotional issues for which eating is my first choice of coping mechanism.... I am hungrier than most people, and I have a strong tendency to eat when I'm not hungry. You can easily see where that might lead. We shouldn't feel bad about this - but we do. I am currently hanging my hope on the idea of neuroplasticity. Addictions are learned behaviour. They can be changed. |

I’m convinced about genetics all the women in my family are overweight, a couple I’d say are obese in comparison I’m quite medium. But we all carry our weight around our middles. I did manage to get weight off a number of years ago but I had to eat more I have a naturally low appetite I just chose with that low appetite to prefer not the best food - crisps mayo garlic bread cheese wine... I made a meal last night that should have been for 2 it was 100g pasta 150g cooked chicken, courgette, carrots, mushrooms, onions, asparagus in a soy based sauce it made my lunch as well. I did have 2 slices of garlic baguette with it. The nutritionist I’m working with asked me what my normal day looks like mentioned my meals and she asked about snacking I don’t snack per-say I take 25g nuts and a piece of fruit (cut down the crackers or crisps) for mid afternoon but I’m not motivated by food & I rarely feel hungry. I can quite easily skip a meal. I’m not sure how real the not eating enough thing works. You’re so right though FdnB medical professionals don’t take over eating disorder as serious as restrictive eating disorders whereas it needs as much if not more to help people cope and to work with. |

stuck to SW plan all week and only lost 1lb for the 2nd week running, however, my clothes feel so much better, wish i'd measured myself at the start. I used to go to an exercise class and the instructor used to say scales are only for fish! Easier said than done though!

I like that and it’s so true it’s not a true reflection at all. Like you my clothes are feeling much better and some people are noticing a difference. Run tonight I felt much better slower run with my mum but a good confidence boost. |
