FdnB is it a Saturn run you’re doing? If so I did one a couple of weeks ago it as excellent I really enjoyed it.

It’s one by Saxons Vikings and Normans here in Kent, looks very similar though.

Me too, on a long race a slowcoach like me can end up feeling rather lonely but if there’s laps you see more people.

I have had my first call with my nutritionalist. It was really good, we did it by video call which was nice bit more personal. She had taken my almost 2 weeks diaries and cracked the numbers. So for marathon running she said I need more carbs, less fat and protein is about right. She didnt tell me to cut anything out but gave some advice and guidance on how I can make better choices. The week wasn't quite my normal, few more drinking nights than normal a meal out, not the healthiest choice of post run fuel on Saturday so I think naturally this week will be better without doing much special. That said I will make an effort to cut the fat down and get carbs up.
She did say this is focusing on prepping for a 6hr plus marathon to get me fully fuelled and in good shape, she said she certainly didnt expect me to not eat out or have the occasional treat.
We talked a lot about the issue i want to fix which is to feel I have the power to keep going on a long run and we may have found a big contributor... I don't tend to take water on runs less than 10miles, I'd certainly never take water for a 10k, but she said anything over 1hr I need to have water not enough fluid on board will make me tired and I'd struggle. So it may be as much hydration as actual fuel. My issue is from on a race I don't like anything in my stomach but we picked up that I taken on water at an aid station therefore I drink 'a lot' in one go along with some snacks, thereby having a lot in at once. You know when something just becomes obvious...
My actions for this week:
Drink more water - take it on all runs and get used to sipping it regularly and carrying water Increase my carbs Reduce my fat Eat more.... while my average calories came out about right for what she recommends (2000 per day given level of exercise) it is obvious that 'normal days' it is way under. It is the alcohol days and the naughty food days that is tipping it.
I feel positive about this, she does get marathon / endurance running and how to fuel this and didnt say anything is banned - quite the opposite. Lets see, at the moment I may not lose any significant weight, but the changes can only be positive overall.

The bit about hydration was interesting, I hadn’t considered that it would affect performance. In cold weather I don’t take water with me on runs less than 10 miles either, I would if it was warmer though, and I do drink at race aid stations whatever the weather.

It really made me think FdnB I don’t take water & even on the 27miler I didn’t have a lot of water for the conditions it was warm, Kielder I stopped eating and drinking at mile 16 I hadn’t topped my water up at 16, the next expected station wasn’t there & the last one they tried to time me out so I didn’t stop to get any. I’ll def try to keep hydrated going forward.
