Probably a bit hard for us this year (the hills are ruining me at the moment), but will keep an eye out for 2024. 😎

The Fellsman is begging for more entrants.

I was just coming to post that too. I thought it was one of those events that filled up quickly every year, I think about enter entering and then think better of it. |

I was thinking of entering this year but I'm also doing OCT. As a result I was checking early on every day how many entries there were because I also thought it filled up almost immediately.

Fellsman never fills up these days; there's been entry on the day available for the last few years at least. I think the problem is that it used t be really good value but now they're using trackers the price has gone up considerably which stops people doing it on a whim (esp in the current financial climate). I hope it survives as it's one of my favourite events. I might even do it this year, but with the increased cost can't commit until I know I'm back running again. |

£95 tells it's own story. That's like charging £11 for a pint of bitter

I think the problem is that it used t be really good value but now they're using trackers the price has gone up considerably which stops people doing it on a whim (esp in the current financial climate). Makes sense. Thanks for the explanation. I hope it survives as it's one of my favourite events. I might even do it this year, but with the increased cost can't commit until I know I'm back running again. It's been one of my to do races since I started fell running, but I've known of the event a lot longer. I'm tempted to enter even though I don't think I'm available that weekend or perhaps do it knowing I'll only race half the route, should it help it survive. |

£95 tells it's own story. That's like charging £11 for a pint of bitter Is £95 really an unfair price though? I've only done a quick perusal of other higher-profile similar length events but it's in the same range of prices as those. No, it's not a price I'm willing to pay often, but I kind of allocate one more expensive race per year. I suppose adding to flanker's point that it's not a good a value as before, there's a lot more competition these days of similar events. |

Compared with other similar races of a similar length £95 is definitely at the lower end of the market (to use DT's analogy it's more like finding a pint for £3.50). The Cheviot Goat for instance is (make sure your sitting down DT) £222 this year. That despite extensive advertising is not surprisingly struggling for entries. They extended the discount entry period by a month and still only have around 100 entries. The Fellsman is the third race I've seen appealing for more entries or they'll have to cancel in the last two weeks (the Lakeland 5 Passes from Grasmere was one other but the third one escapes my memory). As the Fellsman allude to in their post the market has reached saturation point. There are now too many races for the demand. Whether that demand has shrunk due to fashion/cost of living etc I don't know but it definitely looks like the market needs to rebalance and that's going to mean races disappearing. |

Along the lines of more and more events and less entrants, apparently athletic events round Keswick are at saturation point: keswickreminder.co.uk |
