Snow around Settle and Ingleton. What's it like in Calderdale?

Continuing on from my mud talon comments and the lamenting of the xtalon 200/225, I was in start fitness Newcastle today (which has probably the biggest selection of running shoes in the north east) and looking at the various trail / fell shoes.

Most now seem to have a lot of cushioning like the mud talon, it's the fashion I suppose, but I noticed a Terrex 225.

I've actually not seen them before and they look about as close to the old xtalon as anything else now.

I quite fancy a pair because obviously my 5 k's round the denes requires a lot of shoes.

Anyone used them?

@Roflpf The mudtalon speeds have very similar cushioning and feel as the old x-talons.

Look at the pointy end of most big fell races and I'd say you'll see as many, if not more, terrex and iRock as inov-8. (although many of them may be sponsored athletes!)

I've not done a fell race in an age now so no idea what others wear. I'm hoping I can get fit enough for one nor two of the North York moors series again .... I really miss those races.

If I see the terrex 225 at a relatively decent price (It was £125 in start fitness) I might indulge myself but I'm interested to know the thoughts of anyone who actually wears them.

I looked at the Terrex Speed Pro (I think). I was very keen, but something put me off them... and I can't remember what. Will post again if I remember. Sorry, not very helpful. It might be a bit too cushioned for me.

This was the one I considered:

I think this was what I was looking at this morning. It does look narrow on the midsole but apart from that there's a lot to really like about them for my muddy runs.

Thing is I don't think I've ever had any addidas stuff in the past beyond trainers when I was a kid. Mainly because, they never made anything of note. Well not that I remember.

I've used a previous version of the Terrex for orienteering, these look nice. They provided the cushioning I needed for stony fire roads, and plenty of grip in the mud without the clunky/stiff feeling I got from the pair of Inov8 I previously had.

Those adidas shoes look great for racing but appear narrow to me. The original Inov8 shape when they first launched was perfect for me. No precision no idea, but guess would be too narrow

They do look narrow around the midsole tbf. Still I'll no doubt try a pair on sometime when the price drops and see what I think.

Got something to say?
