He said that these type of races do not bring economic benefits to Keswick.
“In these big races, people are on fussy diets and are not going to have a big fry up,” said Cllr Titley. “It’s a different sort of competition and it attracts very serious competitors. They don’t tend to eat out.”
Erm ...

I know I thought that was a strange statement as opposed to the more realistic - eat anything in sight!!

I wonder if Cllr Titley has a specific objection to The Great Run Company.

Jinx I wonder if Cllr Titley has a specific objection to The Great Run Company.
Or just as likely to the LDNPA involvement. There is rarely much love lost between local councils and NPAs.

Also I’m assuming his maths to get to the “thick end of 1000 events” is based on 52 weeks of 13 parkruns which is a wonderful way to make the statistics fit your argument!!

And 13 parkruns presumably extends the Lake District to Carlisle, the west coast and Millom.

With regards entries to events.
This is not restricted to fell running or indeed just running as a sport.
Many sports are reporting reduced participation since COVID.
Now pricing people out at certain events is definitely part of the issue, but not all.
We have an orienteering event on flasby fell in a few weeks. Last time we held an event there we got 250 entries (pre COVID)
This time, we might be lucky if they're 150.
Flasby might not be the most amazing area in the orienteering world, but our dales events do usually attract people.
